Mangia
Serving authentic Chicago-style stuffed pizza, thin crust pizza, subs, salads and more. You cannot miss this campus area cafe with the huge "Mangiazilla" mascot hovering overhead. Guero's Taco Bar
This is a magnet for local and out-of-town celebrities; the likes of Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock have been spotted here. The decor is Mexican cantina (converted from an old feed store) and the food mostly Mexican, with some Tex-Mex standards thrown in. Chips come with fresh red and green salsas, and the menu contains all the expected favorites, well executed. The tortillas are above average. The kid's menu contains several choices (this is a kid-friendly spot). Try the Steak a la Tampiqueña or Snapper a la Veracruzano at dinner for something different. Breakfast tacos are served all day.
Polvos Mexicanos
South Austin is noted for its casual dining experiences. Polvos moved in and became the perfect spot for a quick taste of Tex-Mex tradition. With a self-serve salsa bar and margaritas that have a little kick, the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for the weary tourist. Using many traditional spices of this cuisine genre, the cilantro heavy Taco Al Pastor is a must try. Tortilla soup is another favorite. The extensive list of Mexican specialties is served without flair but with lots of flavor. Price Range: Moderate ($5-$15).
