During your Las Vegas vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Coyote Cafe
If you want spicy, this Southwestern selection is for you. The ambiance is definitely relaxing, set in earth tones with wood carvings--like the Kokapelli--and Southwest styling. This menu is original, starting with appetizers such as Queso Fundido--tortillas that you dip in cheese--to the Southwestern tasting platter, which includes a pork gordita, chicken enchilada and a duck quesadilla. There is an adequate wine list, but the sparkler here is the margarita. This restaurant is located at the MGM Grand.
Spago
Wolfgang Puck has found the perfect place for one of his fine eateries in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. The main dishes, created with a style only Puck can provide, are nothing short of amazing. The desserts are sinfully delicious. Chinois Chicken Salad starts you off, or even serves as a healthy and filling entree. The pasta dishes are delightful, and this is home to the Jewish Pizza. The restaurant is two eateries in one; you can eat in the patio cafe, which is less expensive, or opt for the formal dining room.
Zeffirino Ristorante
Chef Gian Paolo Belloni brings a rich history of tradition to his family's first United States location at the Venetian Hotel. It is located in the Grand Canal Shoppes, with a bar on the first floor, and the restaurant on the second accessible by elevator. A portion of the dining area overlooks the Gondola Rides. Pasta with Pesto is the specialty. Fish courses include Jumbo Shrimp in Saffron Sauce and Tuna Steak with tomatoes and mushrooms. On Saturday and Sunday, brunch is served with complimentary champagne and cocktails.
Make your reservations for discount hotel rooms in the
Las Vegas area, including:
Golden Gate Hotel Casino
This spot was recently added to the list of historical places in Nevada, as well it should. It was the first hotel (still in existence) to be built in Las Vegas, and it is still going strong. In the 1950s a "modern" facade was added, which remained until the inauguration of the Fremont Street Experience. Then the hotel was restored to its original charming appearance (circa 1930s), replete with flower boxes at the windows. A piano bar is situated next to the Shrimp Cocktail Deli, which still serves up 99-cent shrimp cocktails.
Palace Station Hotel Casino
What started out as the "Bingo Palace" in the 1970s has blossomed into the flagship of the Station Casino properties (with four other locations in Las Vegas and a new one in Henderson). Rooms are spacious and highly affordable, if a bit inconvenient from the action on the Strip. Famous for their excellent Feast Buffet, with carving and omelet stations, the hotel offers a variety of dining choices, from gourmet to fast food. They have kept the gigantic bingo parlor and remodeled and enlarged their casino over the years, so it's state-of-the art. The on-premise Laugh Trax nightclub offers great comedy shows each evening.
Mt. Charleston Lodge
Get away to the beautiful Toiyabe Mountains and stay in luxury and style. The Lodge offers honeymoon cabins (500 square feet with one king size bed) and family cabins (800 square feet with two double beds). Units range in price from USD125 to USD220, depending on time of year and day of the week. Each cabin offers a fireplace, a double-wide whirlpool tub, a living area and a private deck with canyon view. You can even bring Bowser along for an extra fee of USD10.
