Dagwood's
Like totally gnarly cuisine, dudes! If you're looking for a place to kick your heels after a long set of surfing, this joint was made for the tube-rider in you. Brightly decorated with colorful surfboards, it carries a wide selection of sandwiches, pizzas and pasta for the hungriest of beach people. It's very low-key and casual, so don't worry about walking in with a towel around your neck—just dig in and have fun.
A Thousand Cranes
Located in the New Otani Hotel, this elegant dining room overlooks the rooftop Japanese garden of the hotel, making for a unique and relaxing dining experience. There are separate rooms for sushi, tempura and the teppan grill. All of the menu choices are delicious. If you're here on a Sunday, the brunch buffet is wonderful, featuring both Japanese and American food, as well as champagne.
Leonardo's Deli
You may not spot Mr. DiCaprio, but you will find excellent deli and pasta specials at Leonardo's, a Redondo Beach favorite. The atmosphere here is pure deli—just a long counter and a few places to sit. You can't beat the selections that come from the deli case that runs along the counter. Food here is satisfying and consistently good. Favorites include the turkey or salami sandwich for lunch, or spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Prices here are well within even the tightest budget, both lunch and dinner average about $8 per person. No alcohol is served.
