During your Islip vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Slate
This fantastic but expensive pool space in Chelsea is a pool player's dream. Not only is it open seven days a week until 4am, but it offers 45 professional pool tables, eight snooker tables, and even two Danish billiard tables. The space is enormous and extremely swanky for a pool hall, with a glass bar and enough room to house a private party of 600 people. The Slate Restaurant serves Mediterranean food, making this the only pool hall in New York City with upscale dining and a full bar.
Vera Cruz
Margaritas are $4 here, and nothing else on the menu costs much more. So if you are in Williamsburg and longing for some cheap Mexican food and alcohol, Vera Cruz is the place to go. Take advantage of the back garden and generous happy hour (4pm-7pm Mon-Fri, $2 drinks). The salsa and chips are endless and good, though menu items like chicken enchiladas or burritos can be lackluster. Stick to the bar and you will be safe.
Good
This charming Village bistro offers the cuisine of both South and North America. Memorable food, service and ambiance can be had at moderate prices. Cream-colored walls and comfortable banquettes relax the patron inside, and al fresco dining is also available. Appetizers include grilled calamari and salad. Meat dishes, pastas and seafood are all good, as is the Colombian stewed chicken and roasted duck breast with apple tamale. Try the house donuts with hot chocolate.
