During your Baltimore vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Joung Kak
The menu at this busy midtown restaurant includes Chinese, Japanese and Korean cuisine. Not satisfied with just the traditional offerings, the chef has also created a few of his own, like the Seafood Pancake, a pizza-sized loaf containing squid, shrimp and scallions. But the specialty here is Korean barbecue, cooked at your table in a huge, brass-covered pot. The decor is sleek and polished, and the ventilation hoods over the tables give the dining room a very modern look.
Simon's Pub
This cozy pub boasts an antique, copper-topped mahogany bar and candlelit wooden farm tables. The menu is limited (not much longer than the list of beers on draft) but the kitchen offers more than the usual pub grub. Try the Grilled Salmon, daily pasta special or a Chicken Quesadilla, the latter served with sour cream and homemade salsa. If you have room for dessert—the dinner portions are enormous—opt for a slice of pie.
Calvert House (The)
From soup to sauce, everything at this family-owned Italian favorite is made fresh daily. Add to that its fancy but not too formal decor, its friendly staff and its jovial neighborhood-hangout atmosphere, and you'll see why it's become a midtown institution. All the Italian standbys are well represented here, and their crab cakes are so popular that they actually sell packets of the mix. Located just minutes from Center Stage, it's a great choice for a pre-curtain meal.
