During your Boston vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

Nichols House Museum
A stroll around Beacon Hill can leave visitors wishing to know what the stately homes look like inside. This is one of the only places to satisfy your curiosity. This 1804 home is decorated with beautiful antique furnishings collected by several generations of the Nichols family. Its most prominent occupant, Rose Standish Nichols, was a suffragist and a pioneering landscape designer. Her legacy includes not just family heirlooms but objects she brought back from her many travels. Open days may vary, so call ahead.

James Rego Square (Paul Revere Mall)
A pleasant little brick-paved park known as the Prado, the mall holds a famous equestrian statue of Paul Revere. Take time to read some of the tablets on the left-hand wall that describe famous people and places in the history of the North End.To continue on the Freedom Trail: Walk around the fountain and continue to Salem Street.

Park Street Church
Henry James described this 1809 structure with a 217-foot steeple as "the most interesting mass of bricks and mortar in America." The church has accumulated an impressive number of firsts: The first missionaries to Hawaii left from here in 1819; the prominent abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison gave his first antislavery speech here on July 4, 1829; and "America" (commonly known as "My Country 'Tis of Thee") was first sung here on July 4, 1831. You're standing on "Brimstone Corner," named either for the passion of the Congregational ministers who declaimed from the pulpit, or for the fact that gunpowder (made from brimstone) was stored in the basement during the War of 1812. This was part of the site of a huge granary that became a public building after the Revolutionary War. In the 1790s, the sails for USS Constitution ("Old Ironsides") were manufactured in the former granary.

Sheraton Boston Hotel
A central location, a range of accommodations options, extensive convention and function facilities, and a huge pool make this 29-story hotel one of the most popular in the city. If you're on a budget, though, you'll likely be able to get a better deal elsewhere by shopping around. The Sheraton attracts both business and leisure travelers with direct access to the Hynes Convention Center and the Prudential Center complex. Because it's so big, it often has available rooms when smaller properties are full. A $110 million overhaul, completed in 2001, upgraded the entire property, including the lobby and meeting facilities. The fairly large guest rooms are decorated in sleek contemporary style and contain the chain's signature sleigh beds. Units on the highest floors are club-level suites, and all accommodations on higher floors afford gorgeous views.Facilities: Restaurant (New England); lounge; heated indoor/outdoor pool; well-equipped health club; Jacuzzi; sauna; concierge; airport shuttle; business center; room service until 11pm; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; executive-level rooms. Rooms for travelers with disabilities are available.

Fifteen Beacon
Nonstop pampering, high-tech amenities, and outrageously luxurious rooms make this boutique hotel the name to drop with the expense-be-hanged set. The 10-story hotel has attracted demanding travelers, especially businesspeople, since it opened in 2000. Management bends over backward to keep them returning, with attentive service and lavish perks -- for instance, at check-in, guests receive business cards listing the personal phone and fax numbers that they'll have during their stay. The individually decorated rooms contain queen-size canopy beds with Italian linens (300 thread count, of course), surround-sound stereo systems, gas fireplaces, and 4-inch TVs in the bathroom. "Studio" units have a sitting area. The lobby restaurant, though overpriced and a bit cramped, is one of the best places in the city to see (or be) movers and shakers, especially at breakfast.

Chandler Inn Hotel
The comfortable, unpretentious Chandler Inn is a bargain for its location, just 2 blocks from the Back Bay. The guest rooms, revamped in 2000, have individual climate control and tasteful contemporary-style furniture, including desks, small wardrobes, and TV armoires. Each holds a queen or double bed or two twin beds, though there's no room to squeeze in a cot. Bathrooms are tiny, and the one elevator in the eight-story inn can be slow, but the staff is welcoming and helpful. This is a gay-friendly hotel (Fritz, the bar next to the lobby, is a neighborhood gay hangout) and often books up early. Plan ahead.
