During your Miami vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium
The Museum of Science features more than 140 hands-on exhibits that explore the mysteries of the universe. Live demonstrations and collections of rare natural history specimens make a visit here fun and informative. Many of the demos involve audience participation, which can be lots of fun for willing and able kids and adults alike. There is also the Wildlife Center, with more than 175 live reptiles and birds of prey. The adjacent Space Transit Planetarium projects astronomy and laser shows as well as interactive demonstrations of upcoming computer technology and cyberspace features. Call, or visit their website, for a list of upcoming exhibits and laser shows.

Latin American Art Museum
In addition to the permanent collection of contemporary artists from Spain and Latin America, this 3,500-square-foot museum hosts monthly exhibitions of works from Latin America and the Caribbean Basin. Usually, the exhibitions focus on a theme, such as international women or surrealism. It's not a major attraction, but it's worth a stop if you're interested in Latin American art. On the same block, you'll find great design stores and a few other galleries.

Jewish Museum of Florida
Chronicling over 230 years of Jewish heritage and experiences in Florida, the Jewish Museum presents a fascinating look at religion and culture through films, lectures, and exhibits such as "Mosaic: Jewish Life in Florida," which features over 500 photos and artifacts documenting the Jewish experience in Florida since 1763. The museum also delves into the Jewish roots of Latin America. The museum is housed in a former synagogue.

Clevelander
A South Beach institution favored by the beer-swilling set, the Clevelander is best known for its neon- and glass-blocked poolside and bar used in countless photo shoots and Budweiser commercials. As far as its reputation as a hotel, well, it's conveniently located on Ocean Drive and it's dirt cheap considering its location. Unfortunately, the dirt doesn't stop there. It seems that the hotel is more concerned with polishing its poolside glass than its rooms. And the noise level can be deafening. Party animals don't mind at all. But if your idea of a party doesn't involve drinking challenges and wet-T-shirt contests, visit the Clevelander for a cocktail and stay elsewhere.

Ocean Point Resort & Club
If you drive too quickly past this sleek building, you may wrongly assume it's yet another condo, adding to the growing area's canyon of high-priced residences. Luckily for you, it's not, but the 166 all-suite luxury resort is so nice, you may just want to move in. The first resort to open in the Sunny Isles area of Miami Beach in 30 years, Ocean Point loses a star only because of its Sunny Isles location (not exactly a hotbed of activity). However, it is a short drive from Aventura shopping and South Beach nightlife, if, in fact, you feel the need to go elsewhere for entertainment. With Ocean Point, you may not. Rooms are all done up a la condos -- with studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans. The rooms are quite luxurious, with 220-thread-count linens, a huge bathroom (with Jacuzzi tub), and kitchenettes. The European Health Spa has the usual menu of services as well as informative lectures. Tai chi on the beach and poolside treatments will have you wondering if working out is such a chore. Kids' programs are impressive as well, as are the well-heeled, savvy staff, the landscaped gardens, beach club, and pool with waterfalls.

Greenview
Art Deco takes a decidedly Parisian turn in this 1939 Hohauser hotel completely renovated in 1994 by Parisian designer Chahan Minassian. A member of the family-run Rubell Hotels, the Greenview is located just 2 blocks from the ocean on a quiet corner that's close enough to the action, but far enough away that you'll actually feel secluded from the nearby hyperactivity. Recordings of Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich provide background to this elegantly understated hotel, whose jewel-box, living-room-like lobby opens to a serene courtyard. Rooms feature handcrafted furnishings, original Modernist artwork, hardwood floors, and sisal area rugs. Typical at Rubell Hotels is the feel-at-home factor, bolstered by the complimentary baker's breakfast and iced tea and chocolate-chip cookies in the afternoon.
