During your Nashville vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

Grand Old Golf and Games
With three miniature-golf courses, go-kart track and a video arcade, this place, located near the Opryland Hotel, is sure to be a hit with your kids. You can easily spend the whole day here.

Van Vechten Gallery
If you're an art lover, don't miss a visit to this small, often overlooked treasure of a museum at Fisk University. Housed in an historic, redbrick building at the edge of the campus, it showcases part of famed photographer Alfred Stieglitz's art collection, which was donated by the photographer's widow, renowned artist Georgia O'Keeffe. Marvel at the evocative, black-and-white photos by Stieglitz and colorful abstract paintings by O'Keeffe. Rounding out this impressive collection are pieces by Diego Rivera as well as such European masters as Picasso, Cézanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Renoir. Allow 1 to 2 hours.

Opryland Hotel
Hotels aren't usually tourist attractions, but this one is an exception. With 2,883 rooms, the place is beyond big, but what makes it worth a visit are the three massive atria that form the hotel's three main courtyards. Together these atria are covered by more than 8 acres of glass to form vast greenhouses full of tropical plants. There are rushing streams, roaring waterfalls, bridges, pathways, ponds, and fountains. There are also plenty of places to stop for a drink or a meal. In the evenings, live music and a laser light show can be seen in the Cascades Atrium. The largest of the three atriums here is the Delta, which covers 4 1/2 acres and has a quarter-mile-long "river," a 110-foot-wide waterfall, an 85-foot-tall fountain, and an island modeled after the French Quarter in New Orleans. On this island are numerous shops and restaurants, which give the hotel the air of an elaborate shopping mall. You can take boat rides on the river and, at night, catch live music in a nightclub on the island. Allow 20-30 minutes.

Holiday Inn Select Opryland/Airport
If you're looking for someplace convenient to the airport, this Holiday Inn just off the Briley Parkway is a good bet. The lobby features two back-to-back atriums, one of which houses the reception desk, a car-rental desk, and a couple of seating areas, while the other contains the swimming pool, a lobby lounge area, and a terraced restaurant. Guest rooms are fairly standard but feature big TVs and plenty of counter space in the bathrooms. The king rooms have a bit more space and are designed with business travelers in mind. On the 14th-floor executive level, you'll receive a complimentary breakfast and other upgraded amenities.

Doubletree Hotel Nashville
Of the three modern high-rise hotels in downtown Nashville, this is one of the best choices if you're here on vacation. It has a less hectic atmosphere than the Sheraton or the Renaissance, and extensive renovations completed in 2002 have given the Doubletree a very contemporary look. (But the fresh-baked cookies delivered to your room upon check-in are strictly a down-home touch.) Located a few blocks from The District, this hotel is also convenient for anyone in town on state government business. The corner rooms, with their sharply angled walls of glass, are the most appealing units in the hotel. Also, be sure to ask for a room facing the street as these get more sunlight. An executive level offers additional amenities including a buffet breakfast and vouchers for drinks in the lobby lounge.

The Hermitage Hotel
This historic downtown hotel, built in 1910 in the classic beaux-arts style, is Nashville's grand hotel. Reopened in 2003 after an $18 million restoration, this is the city's top choice if you crave both space and elegance. The lobby, with its marble columns, gilded plasterwork, and stained-glass ceiling, is the most magnificent in the city. Afternoon tea is served here Thursdays through Saturdays. Guest rooms (all of which are suites) are recently upgraded, spacious, and comfortable, with down-filled duvets and pillows on the beds. All rooms feature large windows and marble-floored bathrooms with double vanities. Before you settle in for a long soak in the tub, ask the staff to draw you a warm bath with a sprinkling of rose petals. North-side rooms have good views of the capitol.Down in the lower level you'll find the Capitol Grille, which, with its vaulted ceiling, has the feel of a wine cellar. Also in the basement is a dark and woody lounge with an ornate plasterwork ceiling. Every floor has handicapped-accessible rooms.
