During your Nashville vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

Travellers Rest Historic House Museum
Built in 1799, Travellers Rest, as its name implies, once offered gracious Southern hospitality to travelers passing through a land that had only recently been settled. Judge John Overton (who, along with Andrew Jackson and Gen. James Winchester, founded the city of Memphis) built Travellers Rest. Overton also served as a political advisor to Jackson when he ran for president. Among the period furnishings you'll see in this restored Federal-style farmhouse is the state's largest public collection of pre-1840 Tennessee-made furniture. Allow an hour to tour the museum, and more if you want to wander the grounds and outbuildings.

Music Valley Wax Museum
If you haven't spotted any country stars in Nashville yet, this wax museum offers the next best thing. Here you'll find wax figures of more than 50 famous stars, most of which are wearing original stage costumes. Out in front of the museum, more than 200 stars have left their footprints, handprints, and signatures in concrete. Allow 20-30 minutes.

Carter House
Built in 1830, the Carter House served as the Union army command post during the Battle of Franklin. Throughout the bloody fight, which raged all around the house, the Carter family and friends hid in the cellar. Today, you can still see many bullet holes in the main house and various outbuildings on the property. In addition to getting a tour of the restored home, you can spend time in the museum, which contains many Civil War artifacts. A video presentation about the battle that took place here will provide you with a perspective for touring the town of Franklin.

Make your reservations for discount hotel rooms in the Nashville area, including:

Best Western Downtown Convention Center
Perks such as free valet parking (one car per room) and continental breakfast make this motel a frugal choice if you're on a budget but want the convenience of being downtown. The District, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center are all within a few blocks. The guest rooms are basic, but all bathrooms and soft goods in the rooms were renovated recently. If you're looking for a room with a view, ask for one on an upper-floor on the north side.

Embassy Suites Hotel
Among the newest hotels in the city's trendy West End/Vanderbilt University district, this property combines gracious service and impeccable decor. A sunny garden atrium features lush plants, cascading waterfalls, and overstuffed furniture arranged in cozy nooks. The spacious, tastefully appointed suites have comfy sleeper sofas, easy chairs, work desks, and lamps. With value-added touches including a generous, cooked-to-order breakfast (included in the room rate) and free shuttle service to downtown and other locales within a 2-mile radius of the hotel, this is a good choice for those who want to feel pampered without paying an arm and a leg. Downstairs, a new Omaha Steak House opened in 2003.

Hilton Suites Nashville Downtown
One of Nashville's newest hotels boasts a bustling downtown location, palm-lined atrium lobby, and one of the city's hottest watering holes-Eddie George's Sports Grill, named for the Tennessee Titans' star running back. Booking a room here is a good bet if you plan to spend time at the Coliseum or the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, both of which are within short walking distance of the Hilton. Each suite comes equipped with a pullout sofa couch, two TVs, in-room movies and video games, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker and more, making the Hilton a comfy but sophisticated place to hang your hat while in Music City.
