During your Baltimore vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

Baltimore Civil War Museum at the President Street Station
Tucked beside the Marriott Inner Harbor is a small brick structure with a curved roof. The first bloodshed of the Civil War occurred here when Union soldiers arrived in April 1861 on their way south and were attacked by a mob of Southern sympathizers as they marched from this railroad station to Camden Station (now near Oriole Park). The little building, one of the country's oldest railroad stations, has been restored and now has exhibits about that awful day and Maryland's railroad history, as well as an exhibit on the Underground Railroad.

Top of the World Observation Level
For a 360-degree view of Baltimore city, head for the 27th floor of the World Trade Center, the world's tallest pentagonal building, next to Harborplace. In addition to the fine view, you can acquire a bit of background about Baltimore from the exhibits, hands-on displays, and multimedia presentations. Renovations have improved viewing conditions and made it more accessible to disabled visitors. The only way to reach a higher altitude is Port Discovery's HiFlyer. This costs less, and the floor doesn't move.

Holocaust Memorial and Sculpture
In the heart of downtown near the Inner Harbor, this open-air memorial starkly recalls the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis in Europe between 1933 and 1945.

Make your reservations for discount hotel rooms in the Baltimore area, including:

Harbor Court Hotel
The Harbor Court strives for quiet dignity, refinement, and graciousness. It's a treat to walk in the door, and when you spend the night, prepare to be pampered. Rooms are exquisitely furnished, from suites with hand-painted decorations, marble bathrooms, kitchenettes, and canopy beds to large standard rooms outfitted in fine furnishings. The hotel overlooks the harbor, but only a few rooms have a clear harbor view. Dining options include two first-rate restaurants: Hampton's and Brighton's, which serves a rich afternoon tea; and the Explorer's Lounge, which offers music every night and is popular with locals as well as hotel guests.

Inner Harbor Courtyard by Marriott
Overshadowed in size by its big sister, the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, this Marriott won't be outdone for service or comfortable rooms, which are a good size with desks, comfortable beds, and well-equipped bathrooms. There are eight rooms with Jacuzzis and 10 corner suites. It's serious enough for business travelers but casual enough for families on vacation. Although it's really not in the middle of major attractions, it's on the water taxi routes and located near the newly developing promenade, so getting to the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, or even Fort McHenry is easy.

Admiral Fell Inn
Updated and expanded over the years, this charming inn sits just across Thames Street from the harbor in the heart of Historic Fells Point. It spans eight buildings, built between 1790 and 1996 and blending Victorian and Federal-style architecture. Originally a boardinghouse for sailors, later a YMCA and then a vinegar bottling plant, the inn now includes antiques in the lobby and library. Guest rooms are individually decorated with Federal period furnishings. Some have canopy beds, some have Jacuzzis, and one suite has a fireplace and Jacuzzi. Two rooms feature balconies. A loft room is quite different from the rest, more rustic, with sloping ceilings that tall guests might not like. But from the three dormer windows, the views are among the best in the inn. The Petticoat Tea Room offers lunch, tea parties anytime, and late afternoon dining.Facilities: Admiral's lounge; tearoom; free use of exercise room at Brookshire Suites; complimentary minivan service to Pier 5 Hotel, Brookshire Suites; weekly evening reception and free weekend activities offered to guests at all 3 hotels; coffee and tea in lobby
