Minnesota Zoo
You'll see most of the exotic animals you expect at the 485-acre Minnesota Zoo, including tigers, camels, dolphins, and monkeys. During the summer the zoo's working Wells Fargo Family Farm engages visitors with hands-on exhibits and teaches how food travels from the farm to the grocery store shelves. Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA)
The MIA's permanent collection of over 100,000 objects of fine and decorative art represents more than 5,000 years of history, including a 2,000-year-old mummy, European masters (Rembrandt, Titian, and Monet, among others), and a comprehensive photography exhibit. The museum's largest and most diverse gallery is its collection of architecture, design, and decorative arts, including a portion of a Prairie School house. Walker Art Center/Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
Shut for a year due to expansion work, the Walker Art Center will reopen in early 2005 with nearly twice its original space for exhibiting edgy, contemporary art: paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, and multimedia installations. The renovation will add a new restaurant, cafe, and gift shop. Across Vineland Place is the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, the largest urban sculpture garden in the country. A variety of 20th-century sculpture shares space with horticultural plantings, including the famous "Spoonbridge and Cherry." Allow 2 hours for both.

Minneapolis Marriott City Center
Conveniently located in the heart of downtown, this facility adjoins the three-story City Center shopping mall and is within walking distance of the Target Center and much of the city's nightlife. Nicollet Island Inn
Just across from the Mississippi River, this lovely inn was once an 1893 window shade and blind company; it was converted into an inn in the 1970s. Located 3 1/2 miles west of downtown, this hotel boasts a five-story pool atrium and reasonable rates outside the hubbub of the busy downtown area. The spacious guest rooms were designed with business travelers in mind, but are perfectly comfortable for leisure travelers as well.
