The Twin Cities' only museum dedicated solely to American art, the MMAA has been around for over 30 years, but its new Riverfront Gallery, which opened in 2004, makes the museum feel new. Works range from the mid-19th century to the present with a special emphasis on Minnesota and regional artists. Frequent special exhibitions are popular and also focus on American and regional themes. Allow 1 hour.

Nicollet Island Inn
Just across from the Mississippi River, this lovely inn was once an 1893 window shade and blind company; it was converted into an inn in the 1970s.
