Nicollet Island Inn
Just across from the Mississippi River, this lovely inn was once an 1893 window shade and blind company; it was converted into an inn in the 1970s. The individually decorated rooms are furnished with offbeat originality; all rooms offer VCRs and freshly baked cookies, and some have Jacuzzis. The Nicollet Island Inn Restaurant is highly recommended (as are reservations), featuring contemporary American cuisine and a selection of over 350 wines; it also serves an excellent Sunday brunch ($26 adult, $13 children ages 6-12, free for children 5 and under). Saint Paul Hotel
This beautiful, exquisitely decorated hotel, housed in a 1910 building, makes for a great romantic getaway. The historic property has welcomed many a famous guest over the years, including Calvin Coolidge and Ma Barker.
