During your Seattle vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Maximilien In The Market
With fresh fish, meat and produce coming directly from Pike Place Market, right outside the front door, you know it's fresh at this traditional French Market cafe/restaurant with views of Elliott Bay. The eatery prepares old favorites like Beef Bordelaise and more creative dishes like Panache du Pecheur (a melange of fish in a tomato-basil fondue). There is a separate lunch menu, a light menu served between lunch and dinner, and a brunch served on Sundays (try the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon).
Sunfish Seafood
Seafood lovers tend to form a quiet but extremely loyal fraternity to spots that cater to their cravings, and this Alki Beach eatery is one of them. Located just a bit out of the main restaurant drag on Alki, the eatery features some of the best fish-and-chips in town, not as greasy as most. The wonderfully inventive fish kabobs are perfect summer lunch fare. If the weather is right take a seat outside and soak in some sun. If it is not, have a seat at one of the comfortable, if generic, tables within. Credit cards are not accepted.
Elliott's Oyster House
This restaurant is the place to shuck oysters with friends over cocktails on the popular patio. The menu also features excellent shellfish from nearby waters, and other seafood dishes including chowder, mussels, clams, salmon, crab and more. For those not so fond of seafood, pasta and meat dishes are available as well. This is a popular spot, and reservations are highly recommended. No smoking is allowed.
Travelodge by the Space Needle
This hotel offers convenience, amenities and comfort at surprisingly low rates. All of the 88 rooms are nicely furnished with many amenities. The hotel offers free coffee, tea and pastries each morning, an outdoor swimming pool, a spa and more. As the name implies, the hotel is located near the Space Needle at Seattle Center, and it is close to Seattle's busy downtown dining establishments and tourist attractions. There is free parking in the hotel lot.
Clarion Hotel Sea-Tac
At this hotel, located five minutes from Sea-Tac Airport and about 20 minutes from downtown Seattle, you can relax in the Jacuzzi and take a swim in the indoor pool. While there is no fitness center on the premises, guests receive free passes and free transportation to a nearby fitness facility. The hotel does have a restaurant and lounge, and guests can order from a full room-service menu. The area does not offer the cultural attractions of downtown, but if you need to make a flight, this is the place.
University Inn
This popular University District lodging becomes especially busy in the weeks that surround the beginning and end of each academic semester when parents need accommodations while they install freshman at the University of Washington. It's no secret why this place gets their business. The moderately priced rooms are clean and quiet, and although they have few frills, they do include all the standard amenities. And the hotel's convenience to the university is unmatched.
