During your Miami vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

Miami Seaquarium
If you've been to Orlando's SeaWorld, you may be disappointed with Miami's version, which is considerably smaller and not as well maintained. It's hardly a sprawling seaquarium, but you will want to arrive early to enjoy the effects of its mild splash. You'll need at least 3 hours to tour the 35-acre oceanarium and see all four daily shows starring a number of showy ocean mammals. You can cut your visit to 2 hours if you limit your shows to the better, albeit corny, Flipper Show and Killer Whale Show. The highly regarded Water and Dolphin Exploration Program (WADE) allows visitors to touch and swim with dolphins in the Flipper Lagoon. The program costs $140 per person participating, $32 per observer, and is offered twice daily, at noon and 3:30pm, 7 days a week. Children must be at least 52 inches tall to participate. Reservations are necessary for this program. Call tel. 305/365-2501 in advance for reservations.

The Scott Rakow Youth Center
This center is a hidden treasure on Miami Beach. The two-story facility boasts an ice-skating rink, bowling alleys, a basketball court, gymnasium equipment, and full-time supervision for kids in the fourth grade and up. Call for a complete schedule of organized events. The only drag is that it's not open to adults (except on Sun, family day).

Lowe Art Museum
Located on the University of Miami campus, the Lowe Art Museum has a dazzling collection of 8,000 works that include American paintings, Latin American art, Navajo and Pueblo Indian textiles, and Renaissance and baroque art. Traveling exhibits such as Rolling Stone magazine's photo collection also stop here. For the most part, the Lowe is known for its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and, as compared to the more modern MOCA, Bass, and Miami Art Museum, features mostly European and international art hailing back to ancient times.

Hotel Nash
Bridging the gap between the hypertrendy and schlocky hotels often found on South Beach, the Hotel Nash is a rarity in that it boasts both style and substance. Located a block from the beach and behind the infamous Versace mansion, the Nash is housed in a 1930s Deco structure, which received an $11 million renovation. The result is a soothing, almost therapeutic hotel in which the scents of aromatherapy seep into every room and public space on the property. An aromatic indoor garden of jasmine, bougainvillea, star anise, and cypress, three tiny yet intimate pools -- freshwater, saltwater, and mineral water -- and possibly the best restaurant on the beach -- Mark's South Beach -- are permanent fixtures in this beautiful hotel. Rooms overlook either the city or the Versace mansion observatory. Ricky Martin chose the Nash's penthouse as the site to host a private dinner party, but don't expect to see any celebrities here -- the Hotel Nash is not about scene. In fact, it's not even on the hipster radar as far as hangouts are concerned, which, for some, is a blissful thing. The best room in the house (that's not a penthouse) is the duplex suite, a tri-level room with sitting area downstairs, second-floor bedroom, and third-floor terrace.

Clevelander
A South Beach institution favored by the beer-swilling set, the Clevelander is best known for its neon- and glass-blocked poolside and bar used in countless photo shoots and Budweiser commercials. As far as its reputation as a hotel, well, it's conveniently located on Ocean Drive and it's dirt cheap considering its location. Unfortunately, the dirt doesn't stop there. It seems that the hotel is more concerned with polishing its poolside glass than its rooms. And the noise level can be deafening. Party animals don't mind at all. But if your idea of a party doesn't involve drinking challenges and wet-T-shirt contests, visit the Clevelander for a cocktail and stay elsewhere.

Whitelaw Hotel
With a slogan that reads "clean sheets, hot water, and stiff drinks," the Whitelaw Hotel stands apart from the other boutique hotels with a fierce sense of humor, but never compromises on its fabulous amenities. Only half a block from Ocean Drive, this hotel, like its clientele, is full of distinct personalities, pairing such disparate elements as luxurious Belgian sheets with shag carpeting to create a completely innovative setting. All-white rooms manage to be homey and plush and not at all antiseptic. Bathrooms are large and well stocked with just about everything you may have forgotten at home. Complimentary cocktails in the lobby every night from 7 to 8pm contribute to a very social atmosphere.
