During your Miami vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Palm Restaurant
This could be described as highly upscale American food. Palm Restaurant serves generous portions of classic meat and seafood dishes. The least expensive item on the menu is chicken, at USD17. Fish and steaks cost between USD19.50-29 while lobster, another signature item, runs upwards of USD35. New York cheesecake is flown in three times weekly from a bakery in the Bronx. The atmosphere is distinctly casual, but be sure to make reservations several days in advance, particularly if you want to come in on a weekend.
Wok 'n Roll
Chinese fare is served with a western twist at this SoBe eatery. Dim sum wins rave reviews and stuffed Rice in Lotus Leaf and Pineapple-Fried Rice are two favorites. A number of stir-fries and salads are also available. Do not overlook specialty dishes, many of which are low fat. This is one of the trendier restaurants in South Beach, perhaps because of the low prices and extensive menu. You will be mingling with the younger generation of hipsters, along with some more seasoned visitors and locals.
Wet Willie's - Coconut Grove
The proximity of this busy, casual bar to the Regal Cinemas makes it a great place for a pre-movie drink. Or better yet, a post-movie drink...maybe two. Outdoor seating on the porch is the best choice for people who like a bird's-eye view of the action. The scene indoors is a bit mellower. Cocktails are blended and dangerously delicious. The menu favors bar food: burgers, sandwiches, and fries. A few quasi-Floridian things are also offered, such as conch fritters and coconut shrimp.
Turnberry Isle Resort
Located on 300 lush acres, this resort caters to the golf enthusiast. Accommodations are luxurious. Club members and resort guests enjoy exclusive use of two Robert Trent Jones courses. Rooms are luxurious and stately, and the staff is extremely professional. The resort is home to six distinguished restaurants, including the Veranda, which serves health-oriented cuisine. The resort also includes several bars and lounges as well as a nightclub.
Hotel Inter-Continental
This highrise hotel, which sits adjacent to the Bayside Marketplace overlooking Biscayne Bay in the heart of the Financial District. It provides a cosmopolitan Miami experience. Each of the hotel's guest rooms and suites offer breathtaking views of the bay or of the Miami skyline. The state-of-the-art fitness center features everything you need for a heart pumping workout. Dining choices within the building range from casual to gourmet.
Pelican Hotel
This hotel, built by the Diesel Jeans Company, is art deco to the max. Designed by Swedish interior designer Magnus Ehrland, each room is unique and has a wacky name: Psychedelic(ate) Girl, Room 201; Jesus Christ Megastar, Room 313; Best Whorehouse, Room 215. The owners call it kitschy and Fellini-esque. In any case, the hotel has played host to celebrities from Grace Jones to Cindy Crawford. Whenever he is in town, Saudi Arabian Prince Faisal generally stays in the USD2000/night penthouse.
