Mississippi River Visitor Center
Located inside the entrance to the Science Museum of Minnesota , the Mississippi River Visitor Center is operated by the National Park Service and designed to educate visitors about the Mississippi National River & Recreation Area. Park rangers can assist travelers with planning outdoor excursions, including canoe and riverboat trips, hiking, biking, and birding. If you're at all outdoorsy, it's worth a stop.

Minnesota Museum of American Art
The Twin Cities' only museum dedicated solely to American art, the MMAA has been around for over 30 years, but its new Riverfront Gallery, which opened in 2004, makes the museum feel new. Works range from the mid-19th century to the present with a special emphasis on Minnesota and regional artists. Nicollet Island Inn
Just across from the Mississippi River, this lovely inn was once an 1893 window shade and blind company; it was converted into an inn in the 1970s. This beautiful, exquisitely decorated hotel, housed in a 1910 building, makes for a great romantic getaway.
