Larz Anderson Auto Museum
The Larz Anderson Auto Museum occupies an 1888 carriage house modeled after a French château. Beginning in 1899, Larz and Isabel Anderson acquired the cars that form the core of the collection, now the country's oldest private assemblage of antique autos. The cars boast what was then the latest equipment, from a two-cylinder engine (in a 1901 Winton race car) to a full lavatory (in a 1906 CGV). Along with the vehicles, auto-related memorabilia from the collection and from other sources are on display.The museum (formerly the Museum of Transportation) has a good gift shop and frequently schedules special events such as concerts, lectures, and family programs. USS Constitution Museum
Just inland from the vessel, the museum features participatory exhibits that allow visitors to hoist a flag, fire a cannon, swing in a hammock, and learn more about the ship. The interactive computer displays and naval artifacts appeal to visitors of all ages. A new exhibit about the Barbary War (the only such exhibit in the United States) allows you to decide whether to risk a ship in the Mediterranean. The museum's collections include more than 3,000 items, arranged and interpreted in ways that put them in context.At the navy yard here, National Park Service rangers (tel. 617/242-5601) staff an information booth and give free 1-hour guided tours of the base.To continue on the Freedom Trail: Follow the trail up Constitution Road, crossing Chelsea Street, and continue to the Bunker Hill Monument. A more interesting, slightly longer route runs from Chelsea Street and Rutherford Avenue (back at the bridge) across City Square Park.

Mary Baker Eddy Library/Mapparium
The Mary Baker Eddy Library, a research center with two floors of interactive and multimedia exhibits, opened in 2002. Its mission is to explore ideas of liberty, spirituality, and the like throughout history. A central role is reserved for Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. The library's most intriguing exhibit is the Mapparium, a unique hollow globe 30 feet across. Both a work of art and an illustration of political history, the globe consists of a bronze framework that connects 608 stained-glass panels. Because sound bounces off the nonporous surfaces, the acoustics are as unusual as the aesthetics. As you cross the glass bridge just south of the equator, you'll see the political divisions of the world from 1932 to 1935, when the globe was constructed.

Langham Hotel Boston
Housed in the former Le Meridien Boston, this is one of the best business hotels in the city, and it is the closest hotel to the Financial District. Vacationing visitors, who take advantage of the excellent weekend rates, are near the waterfront and downtown attractions but are not all that close to public transit.Langham, a Hong Kong-based chain of luxury hotels with properties in England and the Pacific, acquired this, its first North American property, in 2004. The weekend packages, especially during the winter, can be a great deal.
