During your St Louis vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

St. Louis Art Museum
Housed in a Beaux Arts-style building constructed for the 1904 World's Fair, this great museum is a buffet of the arts, where visitors can sample as much as they like of the displays from around the globe and from virtually all time periods. It contains works ranging from ancient and medieval art to European old masters, French Impressionists, American art from 1800 to 1945, and contemporary art. Its pre-Columbian and German Expressionist collections are ranked among the best in the world (it owns more paintings by Max Beckmann than any museum in the world). Other galleries feature Islamic and ancient art; an Asian collection; an Egyptian collection (including three mummies); arms and armor; and art from Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. There are also displays of Chinese, European, and American decorative arts. You should spend at least 2 hours here.

Missouri Botanical Garden
Opened in 1859, this is the country's oldest and one of its best botanical gardens: a 79-acre delight featuring the nation's largest Japanese strolling garden, a Chinese garden, a geodesic-domed rainforest greenhouse, an 1882 brick conservatory housing camellias, a scented garden for the visually impaired, a sculpture garden with works by Carl Milles, a hedge maze, a home-gardening resource center, and themed gardens ranging from a Victorian garden to an English woodland garden. A must-see for gardeners, who can easily spend 2 or 3 hours of bliss here.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery
Anheuser-Busch, one of the world's largest beer brewers, was established at this site in the 1860s, and many architectural gems from that time period remain. Tours of the brewing process take in the 1885 Clydesdale stable, the historic 1892 Brew House, and the packaging plant, ending with free drinks. Allow 1 1/2 hours. Tours begin at 12th and Lynch streets (I-55 at Arsenal).

Make your reservations for discount hotel rooms in the St Louis area, including:

Sheraton St. Louis City Center Hotel & Suites
With a great location right next to a MetroLink Station and within walking distance of Union Station and Busch Stadium, this hotel occupies four floors of the renovated Edison Brothers warehouse, distinctive for a trompe l'oeil mural that draws its imagery from St. Louis landmarks and the 1904 World's Fair. Pluses include the in-house parking garage and the 10,000-square-foot sports bar and grill featuring 28 TV screens and live bands on weekends. Rooms are enormous, with standard rooms measuring 550 square feet. Otherwise, rooms are rather ordinary and even seem empty due to their huge size (many also face an inner atrium, making them dark as well) but are equipped with refrigerators.

Drury Inn Union Station
Part of a St. Louis-based chain, this beautifully restored former YMCA, built in 1907, is across from Union Station and offers rooms with refrigerators, microwaves, and free popcorn and soda; free evening beverages and snacks (Mon-Thurs); free local calls; and many other perks (including laundry facilities), making this a great place for families. Note that some rooms face inward, meaning no views.

Chase Park Plaza Hotel
Located across from Forest Park in the elegant Central West End, with its antiques shops, sidewalk cafes, and sophisticated restaurants, this recently restored, 1920s historic hotel is one of the city's poshest, offering luxuriously appointed rooms and one- and two-bedroom suites, the latter two featuring stocked kitchens. The hotel's many facilities, including a five-screen movie complex, and its proximity to the attractions of Forest Park, make it a winner with the business and leisure set.
