Myrtle Beach hotels, activities for a perfect family getaway

By Robin Gallagher

myrtle-beach_overviewI’ll admit that I’d never been to Myrtle Beach until we took our children there for our first  family vacation. I was searching for a fun summer beach vacation within driving distance of our Virginia home (flying with toddlers is too much stress for this mother!), and following the advice of a friend, settled on Myrtle Beach.

As the mother of two young boys, I also admit that I’ve got a few more requirements for our family vacations:

  1. The hotel must have a room with at least one bedroom so my husband and I can have some quiet time after the boys fall asleep.
  2. There’s got to be plenty of fun things to do to keep my young boys interested and active all day, rain or shine.
  3. It has to be an affordable family vacation. With the economy so unstable these days, the bottom line is that we’re more concerned than ever before about saving for our children’s future.

We found Myrtle Beach hotels and activities met all of these requirements and then some. (more…)

Family vacation By Robin Gallagher

I love family vacations at Myrtle Beach because there are endless things to keep my kids busy: miniature golf, arcades, amusements, indoor play areas, and water parks to mention a few … oh yeah, and the beach! There are also beautiful golf courses where my husband can sneak away, and I can hit the Tanger Outlets for upscale shopping at discount prices in the evenings.

Beach vacation: New tool finds ideal resort in 3 steps

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Orb_img_beachwizard2_250x180Want to hit the beach, but you’re not sure where to go? Check out Orbitz’s innovative new search tool, which helps travelers plan a beach vacation based on their specific needs and interests.

When you visit MyIdealBeach.com, you’ll be asked to identify who’s traveling (family with kids, for example), choose your preferred
activities (e.g. shopping, golf, nightlife), and identify hotel features and amenities (spa, gay-friendly, etc.) you want.

You also can modify your results based on region and sort results by price, location, and hotel star rating.

The tool searches more than 450 of Orbitz’s top beachfront hotels in the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico and South America that have been hand-picked and ranked by Orbitz’s team of hotel market managers based on the criteria.

Travelers can then choose from a recommended list of select properties — from South Beach hotels to Maui hotels to Myrtle Beach hotels — that most closely match their ideal beach. All inclusive vacations also are among the options.
