My wife and I have been taking our 2 teens to Aruba for 5 years straight. We stay at the Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino, which has the cleanest, biggest beach. Our days are filled with snorkeling, shopping and lounging on the beach. Nighttime is for gambling (yes, as a family) and trying new restaurants (or revisiting our favorites). CityCenter, the new giant on the Strip, may have its pros and cons in the competitive field of Las Vegas hotels, but one thing is for sure: it holds a treasure trove of incomparable dining experiences. There are so many that one leading critic in town thought the idea of summing them all up was practically impossible. Not me. It’s weird to get homesick for a place that isn’t technically your home, but that’s how I feel about Rio de Janeiro. And I never know when it’s going to hit me. Even as I write this, I start to get crabby with longings of Rio and wonder when I can plan another gay travel excursion there.

Here are my top 10 favorite things about Rio de Janeiro: (more…)

Fortunately, a number of apps have sprung up for the iPhone and other mobile devices that prove to help keep a happy traveler from becoming a wary one. While there are hundreds of great travel-related apps, I’ve picked ten that I love.

With Google Mobile App, you literally have all the information in the world available at your fingertips. Its voice search makes speaking your search a seamless activity (and the voice recognition is usually spot-on). You can look-up facts, addresses, maps, restaurant recommendations and so much more. It’s a great companion to Wikipanion, Wikipedia’s mobile app. (more…)
