Florence at dusk
Last September, I was fortunate to visit Italy during an amazing twelve day trip that consisted of stops in multiple cities via train, car — and even boat!
Of the many options available for a Europe Vacation, Italy is one of the most popular for a reason; it offers a wealth of history, culture, and attractions to suit the tastes of just about everyone. While most any itinerary to Italy can be fabulous, it pays to talk with others who have already been there. If you were to ask me for my two – or ten – cents on planning a great Italy vacation , here’s what I’d share…

If you’re looking for inspiration, see these top 10 recommendations from the Orbitz Parent Panel for great vacations sure to please the whole gang.
Aruba
From Ian R. — My wife and I have been taking our 2 teens to Aruba for 5 years straight. We stay at the Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino, which has the cleanest, biggest beach. Our days are filled with snorkeling, shopping and lounging on the beach. Nighttime is for gambling (yes, as a family) and trying new restaurants (or revisiting our favorites). See more of my recommendations.

Chef at work at BarMasa. (All photos: E.C. Gladstone)
By E.C. Gladstone
CityCenter, the new giant on the Strip, may have its pros and cons in the competitive field of Las Vegas hotels, but one thing is for sure: it holds a treasure trove of incomparable dining experiences. There are so many that one leading critic in town thought the idea of summing them all up was practically impossible. Not me. Your tireless blogger has checked out nearly all the eateries in ARIA, Vdara, Crystals and Mandarin Oriental, and can tell which of the experiences foodies truly should not miss.
10. BarMasa/Shaboo, ARIA
The quality of fish is absolutely excellent at this outpost of New York’s fanciest sushi spot — but is it worth paying five times (at least) the price of what sushi would cost in many other top-notch Japanese restaurants in Las Vegas hotels? Only you, and your accountant, can answer that. (more…)

Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro (Photo: Riotur - Images Supply/Rio Convention & Visitors Bureau)
By Bryan Herb
It’s weird to get homesick for a place that isn’t technically your home, but that’s how I feel about Rio de Janeiro. And I never know when it’s going to hit me. The other day I was walking in Chicago’s Boy’s Town, and I started getting melancholy for the sultry, sexy, summers in Rio de Janeiro. There is truly no place like it.
The problem is, Rio de Janeiro SPOILS its visitors, and it can be really hard to adjust to life back home. What do you mean I have to put my shirt on to enter your café? What happened to the constant parade of hot gay men I’ve grown accustomed to seeing on the streets? Where’s my $20 steak extravaganza? Where’s my acai juice? Even as I write this, I start to get crabby with longings of Rio and wonder when I can plan another gay travel excursion there.
Here are my top 10 favorite things about Rio de Janeiro: (more…)

Get the free Orbitz iPhone app.
By Ari Bendersky
When it comes to travel, nothing kills a trip faster than being in the dark about your plans. Fortunately, a number of apps have sprung up for the iPhone and other mobile devices that prove to help keep a happy traveler from becoming a wary one. While there are hundreds of great travel-related apps, I’ve picked ten that I love.
Google Mobile App (free)
With Google Mobile App, you literally have all the information in the world available at your fingertips. Its voice search makes speaking your search a seamless activity (and the voice recognition is usually spot-on). You can look-up facts, addresses, maps, restaurant recommendations and so much more. It’s a great companion to Wikipanion, Wikipedia’s mobile app. (more…)
