As iconic as the Empire State Building and Central Park, New York City vacation plans wouldn’t be complete without experiencing a Broadway musical or play. And as a local New Yorker, fall season finds me in dramatic anticipation as I plan which new shows I’d like to see. The fall 2011/spring 2012 season promises to deliver quite a line-up of performances. Here are a few Broadway shows to consider on your trip:

On the musical revival list, Harry Connick, Jr. heads “On A Clear Day You Can See Forever,” offering a revised storyline with a gender twist. “Godspell” will be back with its familiar 70′s score, and come spring — a revival of both “Evita” with Ricky Martin, and “Funny Girl” starring Lauren Ambrose of “Six Feet Under” fame. Straight plays include Noel Coward’s “Private Lives” with Kim Cattrall, and “The Mountaintop” — a stirring new play centered on the night before Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett.

To score the best ticket deals, try a TKTS location for same-day tickets and up to 50-percent off retail prices. And for even more New York City travel savings, try the cutting-edge Yotel New York at Times Square West, a futuristic new property with hi-tech rooms, a digital receptionist, and luggage-toting robot.
