Great Location

The best features of this hotel were the great restaurants within walking distance. We would recommend Vickery's (next door ... to hotel) and Sette, which is an awesome Italian place across Shem Creek. This location also gives qiuck and easy access to Charleston, the areas beaches, and the new waterfront park. Parking could be a bit of a problem at night as some of the restaurant patrons used the hotel parking lot.

Oveall the experience was good. Checkin was no fuss and the staff was friendly. The big draw to this hotel is that is is ... extremely convenient to all the bars and restaurants on the back waters of Mt Pleasent. Only problem is the patrons of these bars and restaurants park in the smaller hotel parking lot making parking a bit of a fuss. Oveall I would definitely stay here again for the convenience factor.

Charleston, SC was one of the best vacations my Wife and I have ever been on. Unfortunately, we only got to spend 4 days ... there. We felt like we could spend 2 more week vacations there and still not get to do everything there is to do. We are already thinking about our next trip to Charleston. We stayed at Shem Creek Hotel which was perfect for us. There was something to do every night within walking distance from the hotel. Everything else to do, was within a 15 to 20 minute drive. Place was great! We only went to 2 of the beaches, but they were both great and offered a little something different. Island of Palms and Folley Beach.

I see why it's called Mount Pleasant

Tippi Aug 12, 2009

Everything about the area was pleasant. The Shem Creek Inn was within easy driving distance to everything we wanted to do and ... see in the Charleston area. Plantations, beaches, shopping and historic Charleston are each only a short drive away. There was nearby shopping and a nice restaurant just steps away from the hotel. Watching the marsh birds in the morning was peaceful and relaxing. We were only there for two days, but I wish we could have stayed longer. I have never used Orbitz, but check in and check out was so easy it was unbelievable. I will never get a hotel room another way!

We were in town for the USSSA Baseball World Series. The hotel location could not have better. We were a couple of minutes ... from the field so we had time to go to the hotel and change and then cross the bridge to go to dinner. We had an 8 and 10 year old and we felt like the restaruants near the Shem Creek Inn where a little fancy. The kids had fun in the pool while the adults sat and watch all the boats coming and going. We also enjoyed breakfast by the pool. We will certainly go back.

The rooms facing the water have a great view. Dolphin watching was fun. The marsh view (parking lot)rooms were a joke, so I ... recommend the upgrade to the waterside. Very convienent to the fishing boats, you are right there. Kind of noisey with alot of drunks raising caine when we were there. The bar across the creek (Reds) stays open very late & is LOUD. A great place for a stay if you dont bring the kids.

Not needing amentities

Susan Dec 31, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

The Shem Creek Inn , is an older renovated hotel just across the bridge on Sullivan Island outside of Charleston. It has a ... convenient location to get in and out of Charleston, and a short ride to the beaches. There are restaurants around the hotel , that vary from family friendly to casual, to upscale. Definetely more in the casual side. The location sits in an area around the marshes. We looked at the dirt parking lot. That was a dissapointment. The rooms were clean and up to date, but the hallways needed vaccuuming. A breaakfast was provided in your room charge , but it did not match the quality of food, or sitting space to eat that most chain hotels offer for that service. The front desk help was accomadating. As they do not have computer access for customers, they willingly looked up restaurants and directions, but were not as knowledgable as I would have liked. It definitely appeared to be a locally owned hotel, with their own standards. It is a good hotel if you are going mainly to sleep and want a good location. If you are looking for multiple amentities and a good place to spend part of your day relaxing this is not the place.

This was my first trip there. The hotel was comfortable, convient and was in a good location. We were on the marsh side, ... yet the seaside atmosphere was wonderful. It was very quiet compared to some places I have been. It was very easy to find and convenient to our sightseeing adventures in Charleston. Breakfast was a little dissapointing though. The room was clean and the beds comfortable, there were even pillows with different firmness to accommodate everyone. Check ... in and out was a breeze. Parking was no problem although not always in the same space. The location was perfect for seeing South Carolina although we did spend most of our time in Charleston and that was about a 10 minute ride across the bridge. There is a restaurant next to Shem Creek Inn, one across the creek and many others within a short drive. There is a Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks down the road. I definitely recommend staying at Shem Creek Inn and am glad that we chose to stay there.

Perfect location

Susan Oct 6, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

We stayed at Shem Creek Inn when we visited Charleston for a wedding. It was a perfect spot, convenient to downtown where the ... wedding and reception occurred, and to the islands, where we spent much of our uncommitted time. We enjoyed dining with the view of boats arriving and leaving, and we had fun checking out the restaurants and attractions along the water way. Our room was nice, clean and comfortable. My only disappointments were that the lighting in the room and bathroom was very dim, which -- at times -- could be trying. Also, the shower drained extremely slow and water backed up. We reported it on a Saturday and MOnday as we were leaving someone was arriving to check it out. The hall outside our room was warm and musty. But none of those were problems enough to keep us from coming back for a repeat stay.

Marilyn Jul 26, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

I thought Shem Creek was a very nice hotel for the price, the room was clean and enough space for the 2 of us. The bathroom ... was a little small but also clean , there was not enough space I thought to blow dry and curl your hair in this small bathroom. The location was good except the address shows it is located on Shrimp Blvd and at the light you turn into there was no street sign so it was easy to pass it up

We were sent down the street to a casual local Italian restaurant. Once again , you were not going for the atmosphere. But for great food. We both had a great meal, in a restaurant that was packed with casual diners mid week. We definitely would go back.
