I was in San Francisco to do the San Francisco Marathon. I chose Hotel Griffon primarily for it's cheap rates and its close ... proximity to the race start/finish. The hotel was as advertised and would not hestiate on returning to that hotel again. The free internet lobby stations was great. Alot of hotels charge for internet use, which sucks. I would recommend this hotel to a friend.

For guests staying Sunday nights- very few restaurants are open in the Financial District! Luckily the restaurant in Hotel Griffon was open- good food but a bit pricey.

beautiful hotel, nice value
D Jul 8, 2009
I stayed at this hotel for the 4th of July weekend, having driven north from Riverside. The hotel is small, but the ... renovated rooms are very nice. Free internet and continental breakfast were a bonus. Located across the street from the Ferry Building, close to shopping and restaurants. Our only concern was parking- there was none on-site, but they can valet your car for a fee of $40 a night. We thought this was a bit steep, so we paid $70 total for four days' parking in Rincon Center (across the street). Had to walk and take public transportation to spots of interest.

The front desk staff was very courteous and friendly. The rooms were small, but quaint for a 100 year old hotel. The view ... of the bay was spectacular.

The Fisherman's Wharf was a short street car ride away with a pick up station located within 1 block of the hotel. There were plenty of restraunts within walking distance and lots of shopping within a few blocks.

Mostly Good
brenda Dec 11, 2007
Upside - The location near the waterfront was neat, restaurants and attractions were within walking distance or a short cab ... ride away. The room was uniquely attractive, clean and quiet with a fairly large flat screen TV. Most staff members were friendly and helpful. A boutique hotel with no additional amenities. Would stay there again as long as we got a good price. Downside - The restaurant was booked for private parties most nights that we were there. The bathroom sink was in the bedroom. No one was available to check us in when we arrived; had to wait about 15 minutes until the clerk could be located, minimal apology when he arrived.

There is a farmer's market/shopping center about a block away on the waterfront. Many neat shops and small restaurants, organic items featured.

The Griffin was in a great location, and I assume that was the reason for the high rate. Rooms were clean but bedding, ... especially pillows were cheap and uncomfortable, Staff was nice enough, check-in easy.
