Overall, it was a great trip! My only complaint was that the room was not ready until at least an hour after check in time. ... It was hot and we wanted to hit the beach/pool ASAP. They were nice about it, but I wish they has told us there was a restroom at the pool we could use to change. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn't a big deal.

ILM to TCI Aug 26, 2009
Grounds were impecibly maintained and the grounds keeper, pool and beach attendants were eager to greet you.... lots of "good ... mornings and are you enjoying yourself?" Room was well appointed and cleaned promptly. We would go for a short bike ride and return to a sparkiling clean room as if by magic. Bikes were availible for the short ride to towne center, this was a huge plus. Limited sundries at the front desk and the front desk staff was not pleasant. We didn't fell very "welcomed" when being received. The "excursions" lady was very knowledgable and greated us pleasantly. She directed us to several great activities. Food was great at the restauran, just $$$. But, on TCI EVERYTHING is very expensive. There is an IGA down the street, still crazy expensive.

The Spa Sonay, just down the street was amazing. Prices were less than half of prices quoted in guide books and rec0ommended local spas. The massage was amazing and the price was more than reasonable.

Our goal was to get away and forget about the stress of our daily lives. We did just that! The hotel was beautiful, super ... clean and so relaxing. 3 minutes from my bed to the beach! Okay, if I have to say anything negative, it's that they need to invest in a few more bicycles. However, not having access to a bike every time I went out made me walk and gave me a different view of things. This is one of the best vacations I've ever had! I would highly recommend the Royal West Indies!

There's really not much to do in August in Turks and Caicos so a great place to just relax is the Royal West Indies ... Resort(RWIR). We went out to eat quite a bit and found the best meal to be at the Mango Reef which is at the RWIR. Clean pools and quiet location. Great snorkeling just up the beach, and right next to Club Med so water sports was readily available. Also RWIR doesn't have a spa, fitness center, or conference room so they don't charge you for one. Great price.
Traveler type: Couples
A case of water from the grocery store will run you about $12, but anywhere else it's $2-$3 a bottle. Also some snacks will save you the 10% island meals tax.

Our stay at the Royal West Indies was wonderful!! The location is amazing. We walked and rented a moped for the day and saw ... different resorts and their locations and loved ours the best. The hotel has snorkeling available, hobie boats, and bikes to take to the little store down the street (prices are very high on the island so be prepared- you kind of decide you don't need that stuff on vacation :)) The bikes are great for getting around since the little shopping area is about a 15 minute walk. We ate at the Mango Reef for dinner and lunch and the food is phenomenal. We also ate at Anacaona, Grill Rouge, Hemingways, Bay Bistro, Calico Jacks, Big Bamboo, Nikki Beach and Jim's Dive Bar. We got an ocean view room and stayed in residence 4 on the third floor, great view and you could see the Mango Reef below. We got a studio which had a kitchenette that included most everything except for a stove. Prices are high like i said, so using that for breakfast/lunch helps out a lot. Staff is amazing at the resort, very quick to help, and they are amazing every where else. You feel very welcome. A couple outdoor activities were the half day boat tour where you go to iguana island, snorkle three reefs and dive for conch and sand dollars. We also went horseback riding and were able to take the horses in the ocean. We went up to "The Hole" with the moped one day. Great little piece of "wow" in the middle of nowhere. Don't expect the signs on the roads ... we saw about two. But that adds to the whole experience. It was wonderful, if you want a relaxing low key vacation where you lay around on the beach and go to the pool and do that all day this is the place for you.

Stacy in Atlanta Jul 23, 2009
The grounds and pool area were beautiful. The resort looked clean and the staff were friendly for the most part. I was upset ... about the lack of hot showers. I spoke in person to someone at the front desk who assured me it would be taken care of. No one came. Nothing was done. My girlfriend and I took cool showers the whole time we were there. That is unacceptable for a resort that is several hundred dollars a night.

Hotel location was great. Beach was beautiful at Royal West. There's no fitness center, but the hotel does have free ... bicycles, and there are plenty of areas to go jogging. A supermarket is pretty close, and there are a multitude of very nice restaurants.

Since the Royal West is based on a number of condo units, I would definitely advise going to the nearby supermarket to obtain breakfast and snack foods. Dinner can be pricey if you eat out each night.

Just returned from the Royal West Indies and we are dying to go back. The hotel is located on the most perfect stretch of ... beach in Grace Bay. The rooms are clean and comfortable and super convenient with all the where with all to self cater. All the staff and helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful. The gardens are amazing and obviously constantly tended. The location is prime for the IGA grocery store and restuarants. We couldn't recommend this hotel more!!!

I really liked the resort. The staff was very friendly and everything was very clean - room, pool area, & beach. We got a 2 ... bedroom for our stay with a view overlooking the pool and it was great. The botanical garden was very pretty and well kept. It was very quiet and relaxing. It was great that we could take the hotel bicycles to get around. It worked out especially well that we could bike down to the grocery store and pick up food that was pretty inexpensive. The section of the beach was absolutely lovely...as all of Grace Bay Beach is. It was great when the pool & beach staff - took us out on the hobie catamaran and we got to snorkel over some reefs. The hotel was great & Mango Reef was very nice. The mango mojito was delicious. In general, I think dining on the island is very expensive. Be prepared to pay $15 PER A PERSON to get to the hotel if you take a taxi. Also, be prepared if you fly american airlines in. I guess it is very common for them to lose checked luggage...
Traveler type: Friends
It's more worth while to rent a car than to take a taxi anywhere. Since there was 4 of us, we rented a car on the 2nd to last day and drove around the island and then dropped it off at the airport. We tried to venture out to sapodilla bay and taylor bay, but there wasn't much to see and no signs to point you in the right direction. There's no much else going on the island. If you plan to visit the conch farm; fyi, most of it has been destroyed by the last hurricanes that came through, so not much to exactly see. [...] and [...] are pretty cool though.

The Royal West Indies Resort is on a beautiful beach, with snorkeling nearby. In addition, there are multiple beautiful pools ... on site, a pool-side bar, and a really fabulous restaurant, Mango Reef. It's easily accessible from the airport, and casinos, shopping and more watersports are all very close by. The staff is very friendly and professional, and you don't want to miss Mango, the cat!
