The Hotel Palomar is a sophisticated artful retreat in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Hidden five floors above the city hustle and bustle and just steps away from ever-busy SOMA district, this Kimpton hotel is like a great painting waiting to be discovered by the discerning traveler. The style of this San Francisco luxury hotel is modern but not trendy, with playful touches throughout. The decor invites closer inspection that reveals artful details, such as the lobby's stunning parquet floors reminiscent of the geometric drawings of M.C. Escher. The atmosphere recalls Paris of the 1930s, where artists and intellectuals chatted at sidewalk cafes in an imaginative city full of creative energy, just like modern day San Francisco.

The location of this particular hotel was excellent... across the street from BART and MUNI, within walking distance to many ... of the most interesting sites that San Francisco has to offer. the service was terrific, from check-in, to doorman, to concierge, everyone was absolutely the best. Our room was quite large and that was a plus. The bathroom was enormous but had only one sink. Can't understand why there was no exhaust fan. ON another note.. the concierge explained that morning coffee could only be coffee and tea... no croissants, no cereal, nothing.. just coffee. He explained that it had something to do with the hotel restaurant. since the restaurant and the hotel run separately from each other, neither was willing or could offer a breakfast buffet (you know, like they do at a Red Roof Inn)? I only know that we got up and had to walk to Mel's Diner for something to eat. If we had wanted room service from the hotel restaurant, that could have been arranged by placing an order on our door before 2a.m. It's not important, really, but it's an inconvenience.

This hotel is within walking distance of so many things: great shopping, Chinatown, a beautiful garden complex (Yerba Buena park), the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the SFMOMA. Take a few steps in any direction and you'll find transportation to take you anywhere you'd like to go in the city, and inexpensively. We loved that aspect of the hotel.

Beautiful boutique hotel
World traveler Aug 28, 2009
We chose this hotel for its great location, the quality of the rooms, and the friendliness of their staff. They really take ... care of you here! The double room we stayed in was on the 7th floor with a view of Market St. It was surprisingly quiet! There's plenty of room in the closet, a spacious bathroom, and the flat screen TV and DVD player worked fine. We had an excellent stay and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The location is unbeatable. We took BART from the airport and the Hotel is right on the doorstep of the Market St. station. The F-line street car has a stop along the street in front of the hotel and the cable car turnaround is very close too. Taxis were in abundance around the area.

Nice Location and hotel
Couple from Sunny San Diego May 25, 2009
Palomar is right in the heart of Market street and just blocks of fancy shopping and restaurants. Westfield Mall is next door ... and quite nice. We love the free wine reception and friendly staff. Hotel restaurant was nice but EXPENSIVE, especially for breakfast. There are tons of bistros, cafes, and local restaurants like "mel's diner", one block away, where you can get breakfast.

The location was wonderful. We could walk to most locations. The Hotel resturant was the best ever. The staff was very ... nice...not the best at giving directions, but we did find some great lunch spots in the process.

The service was outstanding at every level whether the valet, the maids, and the front desk attendants. The kindness feels ... genuine. Great place!

Market St. has many shops to keep you occupied if the weather in SF gets rainy. Otherwise, it's a trolley ride from the ferry terminal that has wonderful culinary shops and restaurants, also farmer's markets on Saturdays.

We were happy to return tot he Palomar Hotel in San Fran. Despite the horrible weather we had, the city needed rain and the ... staff and amenities were very good. I hope to go back in the summer!
