Great Motel, we go back once in a while
Paul Nov 16, 2009
We usually stay at this Motel when we go to the Joshua Tree. It's unexpensive, the location is very convenient, the staff is ... friendly, we use the BBQ area, free Internet access, HBO, etc.

Great location but

Great location for visit to National Park. Also next to a market and a restaurant, so quite convenient. Room was somewhat ... shabby - which was still OK - but there was a lingering smell of disinfectant plus air freshener that was unpleasant. The pool is small but still aplus if traveling during hot season.

If you like Indian food there is a very good eat-in/take out place next door.

This is an older motel, the bed was comfortable, but the furniture in the room was rather rough but clean. nothing fancy. I ... dont remember what I paid for it, but it is worth paying 45 dollars a night.

The hotel gave out coupons for a local Mexican restaurant, Santanas. DON"T BOTHER!!! The prices were great, the portions large...but the food was horrible! None of us (even the Marine who eats anything!) could eat our meals.

Pretty good, for the price
Marine Mom Jul 7, 2009
We were visiting our son at 29 Palms so a basic hotel was all we needed. This hotel fit the bill. Clean, quiet, just the ... basics. They upgraded us immediately when our son decided to join us. Overall, we were very pleased.

This hotel was comfortable and quiet in a good location to go see Joshua Tree. The rooms are a little dated but comfortable ... and you really can't find a room with a king size bed for the price. Free internet is a plus too. No frills but convenient.

There is a Starbucks and a frozen yogurt shop down the road a ways. It was the perfect end to a very not summer day at Joshua Tree.

A great bargin. More than I expected, large room very out dated, but spacious, clean & comfortable. A little noisy as I was ... closest to the hiway, I would suggest a room as far away as possible. Bring your own pillow, but the shower rocks. I'll be back. Great deal for the price.

Very close to Joshua Tree National Park, The Crossroads Cafe is just down the street. DO NOT attempt to walk across the Hiway, they pick off pedestrians like flies.

Close and Convenient

We visited the Joshua Tree area to visit the Nat'l Park and do some day hiking. Late-March is an awesome time frame to do ... this (in the high 60's to mid-70's). The hotel is located approx 1/2 mile from Park Drive (west park entrance). We were very pleased with the cleanliness of the room, the only exception being we would bring our own pillows next trip (we forgot them). The hotel pillows were very hard and flat; only 2 pillows for a king-size bed; we left during our 2nd night around 11:30pm for home because we just were not comfortable sleeping. The banisters along the 2nd floor walkway were covered with bird droppings. That definitely needs to be attended to daily. The microwave and the refrigerator were a God-send; we went to the grocery store, bought what we wanted to eat and ate in our room. They were in excellent condition. If the pillow and banister issues are taken care of, we would definitely stay there again.
Traveler type: Couples
Stop by the Visitors Information Center before entering the park. You can purchase the park entrance fee there and not have to create a line to buy it at the gate entrance. Good idea to stop by Stater Bros in Yucca Valley to purchase lunch box ($5.50). Huge sandwich, chips, salad (mac or potato).

Basic motel
Erin Oct 11, 2008
I stayed here for 6 nights while rock climbing at nearby Joshua Tree. It was adequate: big room, fridge/microwave, cable tv ... and wireless internet. It's definitely not fancy, but if all you want is a bed and a shower, it'll do.

The High Desert Motel was near the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park and to needed services (food, shopping, gas ... stations, etc.) The staff was friendly and accommodated our requests. I was pleasantly surprised to have wireless internet in our room. It would have been nicer if highway noise had not been so noticeable. A pool was available, but we did not have the opportunity to enjoy it.

The perfect hotel in the High Desert Area!
Rebecca Aug 8, 2007
This is one of the largest room I've ever stayed in for this price range! A very comfortable king sized bed is the spotlight ... of this wonderful room! A desk beside the window offered wonderful views of the desert, while allowing you access to free high speed internet! The vanity held clean deep drawers for unpacking, and an area to hang up others. The tv was clear and offered everything you could want to watch. The pool is the cleanest in the area (as told to me by the local health board)! This hotel is only 10 minutes from Yucca Valley, and 15 from the Twentynine Palms Marine Base!! You are across the road from Joshua Tree national Park, and a short drive to many interesting and unusual sites!! The owners and staff are by far the nicest and most outgoing of any that I have met. I would highly recommend this hotel to ANY traveler in the area!! There is a wonderful FREE High Desert Museum in Yucca Valley, with art showings, displays, local wildlife and many other surprises... get your pictures with the giant statues!!! The giant dinosaurs of Cabazon are only about 45 minutes away!! If you go on the weekend you can climb up the T-rex and look out his mouth for just $2! There are many antique malls, and small stores all around the area for wonderful finds and gifts... just don't be afraid to drive off the beaten path to find them!
