The hotel was clean, had a great view of the town from the upper floors and the price was right. It is about 2 blocks from ... the main drag but well within walking distance of most anything. The hotel has most anything you would need as far as entertainment, food etc. so if you don't want to go out, you don't have to.

I need a cheap hotel close to where my work was going to be. The price was perfect. The staff friendly. I brought my two ... small boys. I am not a gambler so the slots and tables really didn't mean anything to me but the dinning and all the in-house stuff a casino does to keep you there was great.

B Nov 16, 2009
It was pretty good, they had plenty of slots to play on, plenty of bars to get our free drinks from. It was all good. ... Wasn't too happy that they didn't show the boxing match there and also that in order to get most of the discounts at the restaurants you had to be a member of the players club but i guess that's how it is everywhere. The best part of staying there was the unlimited drinks that came with our room. The drinks were kinda small but they were plenty strong.

we enjoyed our stay for most part. The casino full of smoke and had a strong oder that went up the elevator shafts and into ... the non-smoking room section.Other than Mel's, the food selection was lacking and not unlike anything I could have had at home. to rate all in a summary the Hotel was very clean with very personable staff. All was well in walking distance to any area of ... interest. In addition the staff was very helpful on providing needed information . The sands also has food which was very reasonable. For anyone 50 plus it is the best benefit one could ask for. Much to see with such a close location of all. Well worth the cost and it is fairly close to the Museum and also one could reference to TAHOE fairly close.

It is walking distance to other casinos such as the Silver Legacy and El Dorado and the rooms are a good value. Other than ... that, if you can find a similiar deal I would stay elsewhere. The decor is dated, the rooms noisy and the casino area is small and the slots were stingy.

Good Place to Stay
Forrest & Gail Nov 1, 2009
We have stayed at the Sands several times. The prices are reasonable and the staff is courteous. The location is just off the ... main yet still conveniently located. We travel to Reno often for business, medical, shopping and recreation. Most of the time we travel on a budget and the Sands fits in well.

There are several otpions for dining. We enjoy Mel's for breakfast and the buffet while small is pleasent. If you are there for more than a night the buffet staff remembers you and makes you feel as though you are home.

October Vacation
Intoxica Nov 1, 2009
The Sands is easy to stay at. We dropped off our rental car and didn't miss it a bit. A short walk to other casinos. Great ... selection of restaurants on the premises. Lots of great deals on food, hard to beat the $2.99 breakfast at Mel's Diner or the $4.99 spaghetti dinner at Fuzio's. We had an awesome meal at Fuzio's (Pasta fusion) last time, if you are in the mood for more upscale dining. We stayed here for two reason's one, we had stayed here before and had a great room at a very reasonable price, and they were running the "Booze Special" where we were given bracelets for free drinks. The staff was very willing to give us what ever we wanted, no strings attached, unlike most giveaways. The Sands has a bike rental shop and is only four blocks from the Truckee River park, and River Walk (which has many shops and restaurants). Reno is a bike friendly town and a fabulous bike trail that follows the river. There are also many nice parks for either relaxing or equipment for the kids. Reno is so beautiful in October! The rooms are spacious, and very reasonably priced. If you're a night owl and want to sleep in, you don't have to worry about being bothered by housekeeping.

Take the four block walk or rent a bike to the Truckee River. Beautiful mountain stream right in town! Nice park, with rocks to sit and reflect or shops and cafe's to enjoy on the other side of the bridge.

Wifi Does NOT WORK!
IrmaH Oct 30, 2009
we were pleased with the size of the room and the location but disappointed that the internet wifi was not understood or ... explained by the staff and therefore we were unable to access it. The inconvenience of the wifi plus having to put a 50.00 deposit to make calls and a charge of .50 cents for any calls was also inconvenient because in order to get help to utilize the wifi internet, we were told to call an 800 number which still cost and still required us to put the 50.00 deposit. Next time we won't stay there.

[...]The room was noisy from the elevators, traffic, and the kids racing up and down the halls at all hours of the night. ... Fuzio's, a resturant near the registration desk, has the worse food I have ever experienced. Mel's Diner is okay for a quick meal.
