I rated this a 5 star for the price range as a 3 star hotel This is the fourth year we have stayed at this Hotel for a week ... at a time and everything was great for the money. This place has a wide choice in food and it is a close walk to the other casinos downtown. Ask to stay in the new section over Mels for a little nicer room.

Don't stay unless your "Packin' Heat".
Frenchy Jan 28, 2010
I chose to stay at the Sands because there were no other rooms available at any of the casinos in Reno that weekend due to ... the Safari Club International Convention. I have stayed at every other casino in Reno NV, several times and never had this bad of an experience. When we arrived right away ther were quite a few transients standing around the entrance to the casinos' paking area. When we got inside I was expecting to see a newly renovated casino and hotel, however, I failed to see any major improvements. The carpet in the casino was old and filthy. The elevators were slow and tiny and one didn't even work. I was afraid I might be robbed while waitng for the elevator due to the other clientel in the casino. The staff at the check in desk were friendly and got us checked in in a timely manner. When we arrived at our room we were very disgusted at the lack of rennovations to the room. The furniture was old, the main locking mechanism for the door was not your normal dead bolt style of lock, rather a funky little button that you push in and hope that its sufficient to keep someone out. The door had a huge space underneath it aprrox. 3/4 inch which let in light and noise all night. The carpet in the room was old and dirty looking and we didn't even want to walk around without slippers on. I looked at the bathroom and the toilet seat had dried urine on it sot we had to call cleaning services immediately. We noticed the little T.V. was on a stand too short to comfortably watch T.V. in bed without sitting up completely. The blankets on the bed were old and looked like they had been aquired by donation 20 yrs. ago. When we finally layed down on the bed all we could feel were springs pushing into our backs. I've had better mattresses at places such as Motel 6 and Best Western. I pulled the sheets off the mattress only to find that it was an extremely old mattress. It literally felt like a box spring we were laying on. Within 20 minutes of laying on that mattress my back was a mess, and I had to call the desk again to get some extra blankets to lay on. I slept on top of the comforter and 3 blankets folded up to make a makeshift pad. The noise level was terrible and varied from people yelling outside the room, planes taking off and trains down the street. We had to purchase a memory foam mattress topper at Wal mart the next day because we had to stay there a second night due to the reservation cancellation policy and it was impossible to sleep on the mattress provided. We didn't even want to eat at the casino after what we had seen the first day. Furthermore my wife didn't want to go to the pool due to the other clientel that were staying there and the general lack of cleanliness of the casino and Hotel as a whole. We were in Reno for the weekend to go snowboarding and the Sands regency was not a good place to relax after a day of snowboarding. I was glad that I had scheduled massages at one of the other Casino Spas in Reno for Sunday morning. It was nice to be stepping foot into a Hotel and Casino that was clean and inviting. I will never recomend this Hotel to anyone not even my worst enemy.

TreeStar Jan 22, 2010
Had a fun time at the Sands. It was inexpensive and within walking distance to neighbooring casinos. Plenty of reasonable ... places to eat in the casino and surrounding. I'm not sure if they are still offering it but we got drink wrist bands that allowed us to get free drinks till noon the next day from any bar at the Sands casino. Definitely made it worth our trip! Not as fancy as other hotels/casinos, but nice for the price!

You Get What You Pay For
Tincan Jan 17, 2010
The room was cheap, but the hotel feels a little too "old school". The room was very average and somewhat dirty. We had to ... take luke-warm showers. Hotel staff was notified about the hot water problem and we were told it would get hotter later. It didn't. I should have used the money I lost there to get a better place.

This was our 2nd stay at the Sands. I will never step foot in this hotel ever again. We were stunned to find that Oribtz had ... not sent our reservation paperwork in. The clerk gave me a phone to call [...](why we couldn't call from their phone made no sense)And I was on hold waiting for confirmation for 45 minutes after a 12 hour drive.Front staff was very rude, then are room was stuck between a noisy elevator and train tracks. The only silver lining was winning at the tables.A employee had set the fire alarm off by smoking in oue non-smoking area and we had to go 15 flights of stairs, and then looked for help to get back in a room.

We went to Reno for new years. I was disappointed that there was no coffee pot, or refrigerator or anything to that affect in ... the room. There was hair in the shower before we used it. The tiles in the bathroom had dark molding, which needs to be updated. Also we had the free drink bracelets for the bar which exclude "top shelf" drinks... and apparently everything we wanted to drink was top shelf.I have stayed in Super 8's recently that were cheaper and much nicer with inclusion of coffee pot and refrigerator. I wont be staying at the sands again. And most of the employees were not very friendly except the housekeeper who was outside our room as we left.

POWER OUTAGE, I called the front desk to find out what was going on and was RUDELY informed that the generators were not ... working. Some people here have no consideration for their jobs so they do care to much about service, others in the establishment are very helpful, ie. in the players club and book. Room was a nice size, housekeeping did a great job everyday.TV in room, not many channels, expected. wireless internet avalible Useful coupons were given upon check in, and free money for everyone who signs up for the players club. 2.99 breakfast at mels with great service at the counter.
