Quiet and Great People-not for everyone
tracstarr Feb 6, 2010
We were there on a kitesurfing trip. Great location for North winds, with a great beach with zero people. The resort areas ... would be no good. Free parking for rental car. At first we were a bit weary of the place as it's defiantly a bit run-down. However, the staff is fantastic. The owners live on-site and will do anything to help you out. If you are planning on just hanging out at the hotel during your trip you'll probably be very disappointed. You also really need a car if you're going to venture around the island. It seemed to be a very safe place to stay, but like any island you need to be cautious. It's not a family location and probably not where you want to be with kids. Most people I meet seemed to be passing through, business people or island residents.

We traveled from Abaco to Nassau the night before our scheduled departure back to Boston. The Orange Hill Motel was a really ... good place to stay for the night. It is a very basic hotel with friendly staff, a wonderful view of the ocean and is close to the airport. My husband and I were glad our friends told us about Orange Hill. We found it to be great value for the cost.

We stayed at the hotel with our small children for 10 nights and were really happy for the place. It's not a luxurious hotel, ... but it's clean, peaceful and cheap. Perfect for a family like us, who wanted to relax and just take it easy. The hotel is a bit far away from the downtown, restaurants or stores, but there is a bus going next to the hotel every 20 mins or so (takes about 15 mins to get to downtown, 1.5 $). In addition, you can easily go to the grocery store with the owner who goes there every day at certain time. There's a small restaurant also at the hotel. We enjoyed our stay very much.

There is a nice and very peaceful beach right by the hotel, with a beautiful coral reef. Take your snorkel with you, you can reach the reef easily by swimming a couple of hundreds of meters from the shore.

I was there for 2 nights, just to rest and relax and that was a very nice place for that. Got nice beaches very close and ... it's far enough from the big resorts to be really quiet. I had a car, so moving around was not a problem for me. The staff is extremely friendly and they proposed me a couple of rooms as soon as I arrived.

Not the Typical Resort
G-Dog Sep 29, 2009
Pros: The famous Cable Beach is across the street, hotel does offer beach towels at front desk. This beach is amazing, ... crystal clear water Hotel Staff very friendly the owners (3) are originally from Ireland they took over the property in 1978 for personal use than in 1982 expanded it and added rooms. They are other bahamain workers from what I saw less than 10 total. Bus stop acroos the street $1.50/person bus runs about every 15 mins, service stops at 6p to orange hill, cab is 22-30$ from downtown nassau. Bar system is honor system you take whatever you want (ie soda, water, beer, mixed drinks) and leave your rm # Cons: Single Rm is very small, bathroom is also small. Worst thing about the bathroom is in the shower there is a window which people can see right in! This creeped me and my wife out! No TV remote unless you leave $20 deposit which will be refunded upon return of remote Beach is too lonely to swim, we swam close to the shore, I wanted to venture out and snorkel but it is desolit. If something was to happen, we would be forgotten! Bed only had 2 pillows which were flat, also instead of the bed linen completely being replaced it was just made up. Conclusion If your a person who just wants the beach and bare minimum in a hotel this place is perfect for you. If you require more than look elsewhere. We stayed for 3 nts and were barely at the hotel, if we would of stayed longer we probably would of left to another hotel.

it was very enjoyable it was a shame the pool did not have lights round it so you could swim after sun down. The atmosphere ... was very layed back just as you would imagine it would be. The location was great nice and quiet and peacefull and the local bus service was very cheap and ran frequently. I would go again but would ask to be on the ground floor next time. Orange Hill Beach Inn - Meh...
Solo traveler Aug 31, 2009
Nothing special. A good thing really was being picked up last and dropped off first when you go diving. Staff not that ... friendly, met some travelers in the bar. Besides that, don't think I'll stay there again. Nassau is expensive ($27 cab ride each way to downtown, $4 beers, etc..) So for the money it is an option. It is far away from everything, which was nice for me this trip, but really, there is nothing around. An ok beach across the street. Again, if you want quiet, you'll get it on that beach.

Do the Shark Feed dive with Stuart Cove. UNBELIEVABLE. Safe and amazing, you will dive and see around 8-10 sharks, and on the second dive, the dive master feeds the sharks, and you're surrounded by 20-30 Caribbean reef sharks. Awesome.

Boater Aug 4, 2009
It was worth the visit to Orange Hill. The grounds and lanscape are beautiful. My son enjoyed playing in the pool and the ... beach is located accross the road with easy access. Liked how we could help ourselves to sodas at the bar (we are not drinkers but they do serve alcohol) and we could mark the sodas on a sheet based on honor system and pay at the end of the stay. Did not eat there but the menu looked good. Staff was friendly. Close to airport. Only downside to our visit was that this particular trip we had to do business in downtown Nassau, which is quite a distance from Orange Hill and a long taxi or bus ride to main downtown. Overall and relatively speaking, we spent one night at the Sheraton on Cable Beach and we would choose Orange Hill any day over the Sheraton.

Quiet, tropical get away!
Bahama Daddy Jul 23, 2009
The hotel has a very "down home" tropical feel. It is only minutes from the NAS airport and the bus service runs right in ... front so it is easy to get downtown--this could take about 30 minutes however due to the quiet, out-of town location of the hotel. The rooms are clean but have a few spots on the wall and ceiling where the plaster is loose. The staff is friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay there again.

JGA Travels Jul 23, 2009
When I arrived, it was late, and I was exhausted. Friendly [...] helped me carry my luggage to my room. I had envisioned a ... larger room, but didn't want to take another step that night. She assured me that a move the next morning would not be a problem. It wasn't! I moved into Cottage #1 for a few more dollars, ans was so content during my entire stay. The French door, and one window looked out over the beach...ideal for me. The furniture was nice, and the cottage was well-appointed. I ate most of my meals there, and the food was excellent. Judy and Brendan, the owners were so personable that when I left, I felt as though I was leaving friends. They have a unique and wonderful bar, where many of the locals also visit to have their toddies. It is an honor bar, and each guest writes down what they have had daily. It worked beautifully. For those who wanted to check email, the bar was a great place to use a laptop. I plan to visit the Inn again. I enjoyed every moment there.

Not quite near the town of Nassau, but this made a perfect location for us. We were looking for a quiet getaway and got ... exactly what we were looking for on the cheap! We were greeted by a wonderfully witty hotel manager who gave us the dime tour: "the pool's open 24 hrs and the ocean's open 24 hrs," among other quick jokes. The room was 2nd floor ocean side with a great view of the sunrise and sunset over the ocean!

The hotel was a decent place and not far from the airport. Transportation was available for $1.50 to get into Nassau. We have stayed at Orange Hill many times; it is one of our favorite places in the Nassau. The owners and staff are very ... accommodating. They go out of their way to share local knowledge, provide a diverse menu of truly home cooked meals on the menu, and make you feel welcome. An honor bar is kept pretty well stocked. This makes it unnecessary for you to have money while on the grounds. Just stop by the quaint little lounge, make a selection, and write it off to your room. Be sure to try the Rum Punch. Poolside rooms have huge vaulted ceilings and great ocean views. We often recommend staying at Orange Hill because of its quiet pace and welcoming atmosphere.

This hotel was built in the '50's and altho kept up, it has not been renovated to modern standards. Great location, across ... the road from the beach. Pool was kinda green. Best lobster dinner I've had & at $28. a plate, it is a bargain. Beautifully maintained grounds with banana, avacado and citrus trees. The main bar is on the honor system. If you take a beer or whatever, just mark an X on the tally sheet for your room number. This hotel seems to cater to and attract travelers.

Great self-serve bar!
Ronald Jun 13, 2008
Compared to some other options for the budget traveller on the island, this hotel is not the cheapest. However, it has three ... things to recommend it. The rooms are pretty big, the self-service honor bar is a nice touch that fosters conversation with other guests, and best of all... there is a beautiful beach just a few minutes walk downhill. This hotel is especially good for a hassle-free welcome to the Bahamas (so near the airport) or for being able to laze at the beach as long as possible before getting your flight.
