Not as good as it looks
Bay area adventurers Oct 26, 2009
Four of us had reserved a 2 Bedroom suite. The 2 bedrooms were really small with barely enough space to keep our bags. Also ... it looked like some of the places like the patio, carpets, tub had not been cleaned for ages. The patio was especially bad. The hotel is right next to the lake and we had a nice crisp early morning walk The staff was nice and friendly and we had no problems checking in/out at all.

OK but needs some renovation.
Cliff Sep 7, 2009
Exterior and interior of the hotel indicates that it was built in the 60's and has not undergone any kind of renovation since ... then. Some patches showing on the ceiling, wear on the carpet, cracked glass in pictures etc. Also, the continental breakfast was not good. A few stale donuts and bagels. On the positive side the location is excellent, right on the lake. The service was fine. Very responsive front desk staff. The Vallhalla is off the strip so it was incredibly quiet. Slept like logs. But the place is definitely in need of upgrading, considering the value of what could potentially be there.

Disappointed
Mom on the Fly Aug 17, 2009
We have visited this location for the past 3 years. Each year were are told they are updating. This year we just saw ... disrepair. The pool and lake were great. The front desk manager cleans around the office and pool area. I was charged more the ever. In the past I have paid 89-99 a night. Other guest got their bills reduced, I did not. What are they doing with the money?- it's sure not in repairs.

Great location....poor value.
dessertdiva Aug 4, 2009
Great location, walked to our concert at Harvey's amphitheatre. efficient check-in and friendly staff. Large rooms with ... dated furniture. We had a lake-front balcony on the 3rd floor, beautiful. Poor quality mattress and pillows. Had coffee maker and hair dryer as well as iron/iron board in room. Stuffy had to use box fan to clear out the air. Place needs a paint job, real furniture and new bedding for $160 a night!!! We had requested a non-smoking room and didn't notice until check out that there were ashtrays. Obviously a smoking room. Breakfast was very good. Real bakery donuts, cereals, waffles toast etc. lacking in fruit except for apples. Don't think I would return there until they RE-FRESH the place.

not so great
remes Jul 28, 2009
The location was great steps from the beach and a couple of blocks from casinos. The staff was terrific. Disappointed that ... there were boards accross the slider to prevent going out on balcony. Therefore no view of the lake from our room. The bathroom was small for a 2 bedroom unit.

NO A/C in the summer!
Tricia Jul 27, 2009
We were right across the street from the man-made beach which was great. But when we arrived we didn't know there was no A/C ... in any of the rooms, that was a shocker! We requested a extra fan, we received it but it was broken. We plugged one of the room fans in and my son got shocked! The cord on the lamp was falling apart. I called to report it but was told maintance would not be in until the following morning! Room size was great, one bedroom w/ a queen and another room w/a queen & rollaway bed(in closet) was perfect for our kids!

Overpriced
Local Jun 21, 2009
We have stayed here before and it needed remodeling but were fooled by pretty pictures on the internet making it look like it ... had been updated. The staff were nice and it is a good location but I thought it overpriced. The furniture needs updating as well as the fixtures. There was broken tile in the bathroom and the bathtub was old and impossible to look clean. For $139 a night we could have done better.

In need of updates
Whiskers Jun 13, 2009
Balcony was in process of getting remodeled was not told upon check-in, I hope the interior of the rooms will be next. ... Wallpaper was peeling, lampshades were tattered and ill fitting, bedsheets and comforters were old dingy, carpets were in need of replacement or at least a good shampoo. Did find nasal excrement on wall. Loveseat was old, uncomfortable and dirty. We had a 2br, 2 queen bed room (beds were actually full size rather than queen) and did not come with mini-fridge. Might want to ask what rooms includes fridge since it seems to vary for ones without kitchen. Based on other reviews, maybe we got the worst of the rooms. This hotel is in a great location with great views, with updates and efficient cleaning, will be a better place.

Room had space
Shygirl6905 May 22, 2009
The room did have a lot of space. The TV was small though and the cable went out for a couple of hours. We liked the fact ... that the bathroom was big, and that they had a stove, micro wave, and little fridge its definatly good if you wanna bring some food back from the resuarant that you ate at. I've been in very few places so I don't have much to compare it too. but over all not bad... Just kinda ehh. Its can be creepy at night outside and the room we had was a ways away from there main area.

Decent hotel with amazing view
Havin fun May 11, 2009
Older hotel but room was clean enough and felt it a decent price. View off balcony of Lake Tahoe was beautiful making it ... worth every penny. The advertised breakfast was simply donuts, toaster waffles, and oatmeal with coffee.

The gondola ride that begins in the middle of town is great. We did not ride it on this trip but have in the off ski season. Also for dining there, is an older Italian food establishment a few blocks down from the gondola that was very reasonably priced and had really good food.

Great Location, Close to Strip
Medha Jan 1, 2009
Though this place was a tad bit pricy, it was absolutely lovely as it looked over Lake Tahoe. Very roomy, location was great; ... just about a 10-minute walk to the strip. Had an entire kitchen area, plus a balcony with a great view. Closet space was huge, and the mirrors on the closet was a huge plus.

Roomy, but rundown
Pamela Sep 14, 2008
Traveled with family. We had two separate rooms. This review covers both rooms. Pros: The rooms were large enough with ... a separate second bedroom for privacy. Cons: 1. Glass Shower door came out of its track, which could have been very dangerous. 2. Floor lamp didn't work. 3. Key cards didn't always work. Had to make constant trips to the front desk for reactivation. 4. Could not use the balcony--they were all boarded up. 5. Rooms did not have washcloths the first day. 6. Horrible, old, uncomfortable couches in rooms.

OK, got a great price on ...
Allen Sep 7, 2008
OK, got a great price on this place and it was right across the street from the lake and a 5 minute walk to the casinos. I ... was there for one night and it was really just a place to crash, so I didn't mind the 2 x 4's blocking the entrance from the patio door to the patio. I'm not sure why they were there, guessing the patio was in someway unsafe. I thought the front deak folks were nice. My room was OK but I did see two other couples coming in to get there room changed while I was checking in. Front desk was trying to accomodate everyone. They try hard, and have a good value room in an excellent location. I would stay there again - and yes I did read the other reviews and was a little nervous.... but all turned out fine.
