Great Room...but no smiles :(

The hotel was nicely remodeled and the decor was beautiful. My girlfriend and I were able to get to places quick. They even ... have a pizza place, market, and cafe all on the same block. The only issue was the staff. They never once greeted anyone walking through the door. You had to approach them or they would just keep their heads lost in the computers and there were not even helping anyone. I think a welcoming staff and friendly hellos make a visit more pleasant. If they truely want to give the essence of Vertigo...they should add more friendly staff.

Decent Stay

The location was superb-close to union square, 2 min bus ride to china town, and 5 min bus ride to the piers. The only down ... side was that the interior of hotel looked cheap compared to the pictures. In the pictures, they make it seem like the hotel has been completely upgraded, but in reality, they just painted over the old doors and walls which made for a sub-par experience. Also, be aware, the bathroom doors lock on their own. The maintenance crew had to come up to our room twice to unlock the door. The rooms were very clean but cheaply decorated. The staff was friendly and helpful-especially the house keeping staff! For the price, I would stay again, I just think they should be a little more realistic in their description.

Nob Hill Grill is a must for breakfast. A little on the pricey side but the food was well worth it! We had crab cake eggs Benedict that was to die for. We discovered this place on the last day of our trip. Wish we would have located it sooner! Across from the hotel there was a breakfast place called Thad's that was only ok and on the pricey side. I would check some other breakfast options before committing for Thad's.

Comic-Con Crazy Aug 6, 2009
This hotel has a fabulous lobby, but the hallways and rooms look like something out of The Shining. They charge you all these ... extra fees when you get there. So for what I thought was a $70 hotel, actually ended up being a $100 hotel. We only stayed for one night, thank Heavens. The rooms smelled like my grandmother's house, and I'm not talking fresh-baked cookies folks. Never again.

The hotel stay overall was nice. The only downside to this hotel was the non-renovated rooms. I am not sure if I had just got ... one that was not renovated, but it was very old. Other than that it was great. Good place if you are just looking for somewhere to sleep for a night or two.

DANGEROUS LOCATION
journey Jul 1, 2009
The hotel was okay, there wasnt anything wrong with it and the staff were nice. The location was VERY DANGEROUS and i would ... NOT stay there again based on this. My parter and I were walking the short walk from Market Street back to the hotel around 8pm. it was still fairly light out. We took the busiest route to ensure safety. However, this didnt matter. We were approached and threatened with a steel bat by a homeless man on the street. He had us against a wall with the bat to our faces. Thank god for the group of young men walking down the hill who physically pushed him away from us. This was our biggest nightmare and i would not recommend this hotel due to every leading street to it [...]. Other than that, the hotel staff were super friendly.

Good price and location
bubb. May 29, 2009
The hotel room was great and the location was very convenient and not too far from the tourists spots. In the room they had ... a modern feel and a flat screen which was very nice. I really felt the price was reasonable considering the room and the service. The only problem was that we found out the drain in the bathtub was clogged the first night but when we told the front desk, it was immediately fixed when we came back from a short walk around the neighborhood. The room service was great, the woman was very sweet and asked if we needed any more shampoos or lotions which was a really good brand. I enjoyed the stay and I find the price to be very reasonable but put into mind, we bought a package deal including a round trip for 4 days. It cost us $200 for both the plane ticket and 3 nights. Not bad...

It helped to buy a Muni Pass for 3 days for the San Francisco Area rather than taking a cab. The pass is valid on the trolly, cable cars, and buses and it really isn't hard to look at the bus system or ask a local. It is worth it considering the consecutive 3 day pass costs $18 while one cable car ride or cab ride will cost $5.

This hotel was awesome. The rooms are a great place to unwind and just and hang out with friends. Blocks away from the market ... street shops and the Powell cable cars that take you straight to fisherman's wharf. The staff is friendly and very attentive. The only bad thing is that there is only one ice machine in the lobby and the ice buckets are too small. Overall a great place for friends.

I would advise people to buy the muni pass available at the airport baggage claim information booth, it's a bus pass that works for the buses, subway, rail cars, and cable cars too. I think they have a 1,3,&7 day pass

Hotel Vertigo Review
Bobbo May 21, 2009
The hotel was clean and attractive, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The location is within walking distance of ... lots of great San Francisco highlights. Although no real breakfast is provided, there are several nice cafes within 1 block, in which to get a good breakfast. Overall, the hotel provides great value for a modest price.

Hotel Vertigo could be good
Jules May 8, 2009
Hotel Vertigo (in SF) sounded very cool, especially the Alfred Hitchcock suites. We got a room through [...], and paid about ... $140. Considering that you can stay at the St. Francis for less than that, we were expecting a pretty nice room, and we've liked other hotels owned by the same co. (Hotel Diva, etc.). The room was about the same quality as a Holiday Inn. Turns out we got one of the "non-renovated" rooms. I wouldn't stay there again, unless I got one of Hitchcock suites.

great location, walking to china town, walking distance to main square where lots of great shops are from L.V. Chloe to small boutiques and antique stores on the way there. Lots of restaurants just blocks away but do your own research, the staff recommended a small italian restaurant around the corner and if you are a foodie it was not good enough for me. plus very slow service. But S.F. has so many great restaurants do your homework(open table or zagat).
