We got a super deal on this trip and I think we really got our moneys worth. The hotel was very open and cute, the bad thing ... was there was only one restaurant open, The Mirador. The room service was great, we had an awesome view of the ocean. The food was ok but hey its all inclusive you cant ask for much for the price. The customer service was great, everyone is very attentive.

Great deal, great price

vacationing Sharon Oct 2, 2009

We were very pleased with the hotel. This was our first trip to Cancun - what a beautiful place. We were extremely pleased ... with our room. We actually had a side room on the 9th floor with a balcony. This gave us both the ocean and lagoon views. All of the hotel staff were extremely friendly. Everything was very clean. We did get a bit tired of their food and decided to check out a restaurant across the street from the resort call J C Capitains - excellent food-outdoors with a dock that you can sit on - very romantic. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We spent most of out time on the beach and the waitress knew our drinks and brought them to us frequently.

For those Who are Travel Simply

Budget Travelers Sep 12, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Staff with execption of Front Desk are wonderful. This hotel has no air conditioning in dining room and very little in ... rooms. If you are have central ac at home, this hotel is probably not for you. If you are on a budget, and still wish to sit on a wonderful beach to read or watch the moon rise, meet some great people this place may be for you. If you call they will tell you they have air conditioning, but it is just barely running. Hotel is in poor repair, but clean. We talked with some couples from UK, and they said this is what they are use to as far as budget hotels . If you use Orbitz to arrange travel to and from airport, beware Greylines/Mayan Tours took us to hotel and just dumped us. That's right, they never called with return information, nor did they give us a number to call them. We had to get someone from the hotel to call them. And help did not come from the Front Desk !!!!

Just like most of reviews:

LoLo Aug 27, 2009

We liked the beach and the beautiful blue water. Our room faced the ocean so we appreciated the view. There were plenty of ... lounge chairs at the beach or by the pool but not a lot of shade unless your marked your chairs by 9am. The recreation staff was pretty fun offering bingo, beach volleyball, pool volleyball and crafts by the pool. My teen age son bargained with the consessionaire on the beach that was offering jet ski rides in the ocean. That worked to our advantage. As lots of others have mentioned, the air conditioning was very sub- standard. And being there in August, it was very hot and humid. At check out, the staff at the front desk asked if we had taken the stuffed animal turtles that they had in the rooms that they were trying to sell. We said no, but they would not let us leave until they had their housekeeping staff check our rooms to make sure we were not lying! As compared to other all inclusives in Mexico that we have gone to, we were disappointed. We will not be returning.

Worst Hotel and Staff

genuinely nice Aug 19, 2009

We read all the reviews online before booking but gave the hotel a chance anyhow. WRONG DESICION![...]. The hotel is ... disgustingly dirty. The pool looks likee it is disease infested and has dirt rings surround. The rooms, as well as the hotel, smells like mold. Good luck eating after 10 pm...as there is no room service. By the way don't leave anything lying around...$MONEY$ was stolen out of my purse which was in the closet in my room. Hotel management blamed me and my fiance for it. Security is in on it too. [...]don't have any customer service skills. Oh, and by the way the air conditioning does not work ...at all.

You get what you pay for...

Recent Guest Aug 17, 2009

You get what you pay for...which is very little. The food overall was not good (poor selection/quality). However, the ... Mediterranean was very good, but you can only go there once during your stay. In fact the best meal that I had in Cancun did not occur at the hotel, aside from the one dinner at the Mediterranean. This was my first all-inclusive land vacation, but I was unimpressed. I was on a cruise last year, which is all-inclusive, aside from the alcohol, and the food on the ship was a thousand times better than what I had at this hotel. There is no AC in the Little Italy restaurant or in the buffet restaurant so prepare to sweat when you go down for breakfast. The AC in the rooms needs to be at the lowest level in order for it to be comfortable. The rooms have a musty smell that lingers. I refused to put anything in the closet or drawers for fear that the smell would get onto clean clothes. The hotel is also in need of some major renovations. During the day there is plenty of natural light in the rooms, but wait until it gets dark out and your room turns into a dungeon with the poor quality of lighting. There is a sewage smell, as well. I'm not sure where the source of the smell came from, but halfway through our stay we would get wafts of it either in our room or while walking in certain places on the property. The hotel staff was relatively pleasant; some more so than others. As for the free non-motorized sports, you have to speak with the man on the beach who does the jet skis and the parasailing. I wasn't impressed with how this was handled, and he tried to sell us a new snorkeling tube with the equipment instead of having to use one that everyone uses, and that turned me off; especially since that would never occur on an excursion. He also didn't provide life jackets with the equipment. Some people use them while snorkeling, some don't, but after having done a snorkeling excursion on another vacation where it was provided, I felt this was a necessity. As for hotel activities, we did a few. We did go on the hotel sponsored shopping trip where they take you to one of the shopping centers. Prior to leaving we asked two people, one of which was the driver, if the free transportation went there and back to the hotel, and we were advised that it did. Then when we were dropped off at the shopping destination, we asked about the return pick-up time, to which we were then advised that we had to take the bus home. Now, the bus system down there is relatively easy, however, because of what we were told we didn't plan to take the bus in advance, nor did we bring any maps with us. In the end, it worked out, however, it was just another one of the shady events that occurred. It made no sense to me why they didn't just tell us in advance that the transportation was one way. As for the room cleaning, the housekeeping always did a nice job, however, the rooms themselves had outdated furniture and needed a facelift. We didn't experience issues that other posters had with stealing, but we did use the safe. I believe it was $3 per day and then a deposit of 500 pesos, which you get back. Also, our room, oceanfront balcony, had a connecting door to the suite next to us. The odd part was that the connecting door, which was in our bedroom area, connected via the bathroom of the other room. So that made for some interesting nights having to listen while people used the bathroom next door. Finally, at check-in, they did try to push the "mandatory" insurance on us. Because I was forewarned by other posters, I knew not to take this, but we had also purchased trip insurance through Orbitz when we booked the trip. I was unimpressed with the hotel trying to push this on us. I explained that insurance is not mandatory and that I would not be paying for it, and requested to sign a waiver. I've never experienced this at any other hotel, but this was my first time in Cancun, so I'm not sure if this is common with o...

No A/C, but refunded half of cost

Dan Aug 13, 2009

A/C was out most of week... water, electricity and cable were out numerous times. Food was very good. Staff was very nice ... except for front desk staff who lied frequently about utilities being fixed. Ultimately, we were refunded half of the cost, but only after vigorous complaining. Beach was nice. Concierge pushed visiting a time share presentation when we checked in.

Quick tip

Horrible

Melissa1233 Aug 11, 2009

The hotel lobby looks nice. Rooms are spacious with a living room and a bedroom. Bedrooms on the lagoon side smell like mold ... while ocean view room smelled fine. No water pressure at first, which turned into no water. Power went out one night, which meant no AC. We didn't have air conditioning the entire time we were there. People were sleeping by the pool at night because the rooms were that hot. Bars were okay- you got much better drinks once you tipped. Snack bar was only edible once you put their nacho cheese all over the food you were eating. Dinner was alright with grilled meat. I'm not a picky eater at all but sometimes found it hard to find something good. There was a green ring around the pool, but we were there for the ocean. Lots of shore line, and the beach was a nice place to lounge around. The hotel was one of the first on the strip, so it's far from everything. We took the bus everywhere, which ended up being cheap and dependable. The hotel was a huge disappointment. The walls in the bedrooms were thin and you could hear everything that was going on in the next room. The staff was great however, but they had to be since that was the only thing they had going for them. Although I seemed to have a problem while complaining about the air conditioning- I'm younger (21) and everyone seemed to not take me seriously. Manager of the hotel ended up taking us and a few other families to another hotel because it was that bad. He didn't even try to get us to stay, he apologized and paid for our taxi's. Stayed once before in Cancun at the Barcelo. Definitely spend the extra bucks and have a nice vacation.

Money savers tip

Take the bus everywhere. There are buttons on top of the railing that you can hold onto when moving-- push them when you want the driver to stop. This saved us a lot of money. It does take a little longer than a taxi, but it's well worth it. Also, best bar deal we saw was by the Luxury Avenue Mall, which offered open bar for men $18 and $9 for women. Great deal and a good location if you're looking to get away from the club area.

Great value for the money!

shesky Aug 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The trip started bad and just got better. After the nightmare at the airport trying not to get totally ripped off on the cab ... ride we finally arrived to the resort. We were told there were no ocean view rooms available. Then they intentionally lied to us and tried to force us to buy "insurance" that we did not need.......DO NOT LET THEM SCAM YOU! You just sign a waiver instead. Then we were forced to sit down and listen to a time share that they wanted us to go on. Finally the staff figured our how mad we were, found us a ocean view(although still a poor location) and backed off. After that everything was fine. The beach and the water were absolutely great. The food was good, the drinks were ok and the resort was clean and well kept. If you are looking for a budget vacation and don't require a 5 star hotel, I would recommend this. It's a family resort so expect a bunch of kids at times. Over all, we would go back again but if other resorts were in a similar price range, we would be inclined to try those first.

Quick tip

a good first vacation

the diaz Aug 5, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We enjoyed the food and drinks, slept somewhat comfortably in the rooms, and loved the amazing view the rooms had. What was ... missing was the Air Conditioning and the elevator service. It was a great trip, the staff were very friendly and always willing to help.

If you plan on going to different attractions, ask for the lunch box in the lobby and ask for discounts/deals/coupons for tickets with a travel agent at the hotel. ALWAYS ask for the all inclusive for everything!

Tear it DOWN!!!

Sherrie Aug 5, 2009

We travel to Mexico 2 to 3 times a year and this was by far the WORST hotel that I have EVER stayed in!!! I would NOT ... recommand this hotel to ANYONE. This hotel did not have air conditioning, our room key never worked, the pool was GROSS and to top it off the hotel was without power from around 4pm to 3pm the following day. PLEASE take my advice and pay more to stay somewhere else. You get what you pay for.

Hotetur Beach Paradise, aka, no AC!!

Hot and Bothered Aug 4, 2009

My wife and I spent 6 lovely nights at this property, and they were 6 nights of never-ending heat and noise. The pool was ... great, the staff excellent, and the food was pretty good. However, when I'm on vacation is a tropical location, I would expect to have some air conditioning in my room. When we arrived,(5:00PM or so) we unpacked our bags, turned on the "AC" and hit the pool. About 2 hours later we returned to our room on the 9th floor (this will matter later) to change for dinner and found...the room sweltering. We called the desk, they sent someone up to "fix" the AC, and we went to dinner. After dinner, they were still "fixing" the ac, so we hit the pool again. We were told the AC was fixed, and went to bed. It was a little cooler, but during our stay the temp in our room NEVER went below 87 degrees. We realized, sadly, that the air conditioner was not "broken", but working exactly as intended. Our first thought was that it was only our room, but after speaking with several guests (about 15-20) during the course of our stay we discovered this was the norm, not the exception. I would defy any guest at this hotel to say their room was comfortable. On our last day, the air gave up the ghost completely, and we were told that the air was out for the entire hotel. All day. For over 10 hours. While "fixing" the air, they blew a circuit and there was no electricity. For the entire hotel. For 4 hours. Up 9 flights of stairs to a hot room. We stayed at a holiday inn the last night (I'm really not sure if the lights came on or not...we left). Don't stay here. Run. Fast. But the food was good.:)

Money savers tip, Short Walk

Take the bus no need for a taxi. We paid like 15 pesos for two people, cant beat that price.

Money savers tip, Short Walk

Do not take taxi, use public transportation. It's really easy. Buy good packages for tours in the airport instead the hotel. Also, go to the bank to change dollars to pesos. You will get more money.

Shopping tip, Short Drive

take the bus not a taxi buses are like 70cents and taxis are from 8-20 dollars.

--cancun 8/09, east wenatchee, WA Sep 1, 2009

Dining tip, Short Drive

Eat in town of Cancun sometimes, much cheaper than hotel zone and more authentic.

--Bob, Albuquerque Aug 24, 2009

Money savers tip

Take the bus everywhere. There are buttons on top of the railing that you can hold onto when moving-- push them when you want the driver to stop. This saved us a lot of money. It does take a little longer than a taxi, but it's well worth it. Also, best bar deal we saw was by the Luxury Avenue Mall, which offered open bar for men $18 and $9 for women. Great deal and a good location if you're looking to get away from the club area.

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

Xel-ha was amazing!!! By far a must visit. Its a natural water park with streams and rivers. There is snorkeling, tubing down a lazy river, a rope bridge to try to cross, cliff jumping... etc.. Its all inclusive so they feed you too!

--Jeep Driver, SLC, UT Jul 28, 2009

Shopping tip

In Cancun, shop for all of your tourist trinkets at Mercado 28. On Isla Mujeres, we shopped at a road side stand on the way to the turtle sanctuary. The stand was much cheaper than the stores in Mercado 28 in Cancun for comparable shell items. Always ask what the best price is, it usually is not what the vendor offers at first.

--MichelleD, Mexico Jul 13, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Drive

The bus system in Cancun is unbelievably good. 7.50 pesos (about $0.50 US) can get you from the beginning of the "Hotel Zone" all the way to Downtown Cancun... You should definitely go to "La Isla" for shopping on a higher-end basis, and "Market 28" downtown for a good haggle for some classic Mexican Items.

--Young Married Couple, Toledo, OH Jul 13, 2009

Money savers tip

Shop for souviners at WalMart....no one will hassle you to buy anything there....the bus will get you there.

--TexasGurl, Dallas, Tx Jul 11, 2009

Money savers tip

We shopped three excursions online prior to departure (Chichen Itza, La Isla de Mujeres, and Xel-Ha/Tulum) and then purchased all three. We found that our online prices were better than the prices offered in the hotel lobby.

Jungle Tour was fun driving the small 2 seater boat. The snorkeling in the package is near dead coral reefs.

Nightlife tip, Short Drive

Take the shuttle into town. It is a 10 minute ride. Its 30 pesos.

--Anna, New York Jun 20, 2009

Money savers tip

Always take the bus if you are just going around cancun...it is so cheap and will go by everything you need. If you don't get a price you want...walk away, you will get it somewhere else, or the seller will almost always give in to your price. Trust me, it took a few days to realize, but I never ppaid more than I wanted for anything.

--Hoosier Hysteria, Indianapolis, Indiana Jun 19, 2009

Money savers tip

Take the bus it only cost $1.00. The taxis down there are way overpriced!

--kilee, st.paul,mn Jun 17, 2009
