Cool setting, but not very romantic
Lectra83 Nov 23, 2009
We were there for our honeymoon, and while we couldn't have afforded anything nearly as nice in central Dublin, be aware the ... a bus in necessary to get anywhere. It was clean, well run, and the concierge was very helpful, but it wasn't exactly a romantic atmosphere. The restauants were a little overpriced too, I would have killed for a place to just get a bagel in the morning.

Tucked away in the quiet little town of Clontarf, this castle makes you feel like royalty. Close to the city, but just far ... enough away to be in the subtle outskirts. Convenient to transportation. Lovely service, good food and comfy rooms.

I stayed at this hotel with my friend and we were really impressed from beginning to end. The hotel staff were very ... efficient in our needs during our stay and always had a cab ready for us in the morning when asked. There's a bus right outside the hotel that takes you to the city center for $1.60 euro or $1.80 euro which was very very convenient. Knights Bar was very fun as well with good food and a great bar staff. I would def stay at this hotel again!

I Can See A Rainbow
Billy Bang Bang Aug 26, 2009
My wife didn't believe we got the room for $81 per night. While it's a 3 mile trek to get into "town" we weren't put off by ... that because we knew we got a good deal, even if we cabbed it. Some took the bus but since our time was limited we got downtown in less than 10 minutes by car. The cabbies we met were great to talk to besides. Back to Clontarf, in short, it's a great place to stay!!
Traveler type: Couples
If you enjoy history, then Dublin will do it for you. Seek and ye shall find it. We even had a giant rainbow do a cameo for my wife and I.(over Clontarf Castle!) You don't have to believe this but we saw a double rainbow to boot. Now if that's not poetically stunning, my shamrock was certainly a glowing green.

The best service I've ever had at a hotel combined with fantastic rooms. Its a bit far from town but near the bus stop and ... the front desk will call a cab for you. This saved us a lot of money by NOT staying in town. Affordable! Didn't enjoy the fireside grill.

Jaxmom1 Aug 1, 2009
Really liked this hotel. The restaurant food was great, the service was NOT great (but that seemed to be pretty typical in ... Dublin, in general), the times the restaurants were open was a little odd, but not too inconvenient. The rooms were comfy, clean, and a good size. We had no view, which was disappointing. Some of the rooms have a view of the sea. I'd recommend asking for that. The location is a ten minute walk to a fifteen minute bus ride to downtown Dublin, easy. The staff will tell you to take taxi's everywhere, but the buses and the dart are close, easy, and cheap. Enjoy!
Traveler type: Family
Taxi's are expensive. Definitely be adventurous and use the buses (have different change handy, the driver's will tell you how much, but don't give change) and the dart (easy and very inexpensive for day trips).

The hotel is in a very nice area of Dublin. The staff could not have been more friendly. Although an old castle, the hotel ... is very modern. Several events occurred while we were there, including weddings, antique sales, and business meetings. It was the place to be and we enjoyed every minute.

We vacationed in and around Dublin and the hotel was close enough to the city, but far enough to be quiet and safe. The hotel ... was a BEAUTIFUL redesigned castle. The Knight's Bar was a blast from the past. The Fahrenheit Grill was small and the food was OK. The room was clean and very comfortable. It was a bit noisy in the halls because of the room's doors.

Staying in a castle was perfect for being in Ireland for the first time. The room was clean and comfortable. We arrived by ... car and were able to leave it in the free car park and take a bus into Dublin to see the sights. One night we ate at the hotel pub. Not impressed. But on the second night we went to Ivan's Oyster Bar in Howth for the best dinner of our trip.
