rock n roll hotel-loud til late
KPK Oct 20, 2009
This is a motel style hotel in Portland that is really a rock n roll venue in disguise. Every night there's a new loud rock ... and roll act that shakes the foundations until midnight. Then drunken patrons party outside your window until 2 am....then the wait staff closes up and chats outside your window until 2:30 am. I don't recommend this place if you want to actually sleep at night. If you like rock n roll and partying til late, well that's another thing.

The hotel described itself as a place that holds lots of events and has a happening bar, which sounded interesting. It was a ... party hotel, the music from the bar was blasting into our room. There was not a quiet room available. I had to run a marathon the next day at seven in the morning and I didn't get to sleep until one a.m. I slept with a pillow over my head. It was ridiculous!!!

For alternative young people
Too old for this place. Sep 29, 2009
The three star rating and description was misleading. This should definitely be a two star. This is a hotel for ... "alternativy" young people. Complimentary red condom on my bedside table with a card that read "Yes" on one side and "No" on the other side.Tatoo artist on site. You get the picture. Room doors open onto open air hallway. Two stories, no elevator; had to carry my luggage up. Clean enough, cheap furniture, small room. Front desk staff were very sweet and friendly.

Cool, hip remodeled motel
Susie Jul 24, 2009
This lace is pretty cool. It is an old travelodge type motel that has been remodeled into into hip, ikea inspired hotel. ... While not five star, it is still clean and in good shape. There is a music venue, which we missed, but heard it is a really good place for shows. The noise did not bother us, but I could see how it may bother other couples, or families. The staff was very friendly and approachable. When they did not have my reservation, because Orbitz never sent it, the girl at the front desk was extremely helpful and even upgraded us when she finally got the reservation faxed over. This was overall a good experience.

Perfect for Gen X and Y
Scott Jun 27, 2009
Tons of college and post-college kitzsch, good indie music scene, short bus ride from EVERYWHERE. Went to the Japanese ... Gardens, took less than an hour to get there by bus and on foot. If the mall is more your scene, a ride and a transfer are all you need to get there.
Traveler type: Couples
If you're going to be seeing a little of everything, or spending hours away from your hotel, get a longer-term pass (7 day) for "all zones" from the MAX light rail stations. This will let you take unlimited rides on the bus and light rail in Portland and (according to some of the locals) in Vancouver as well.

This is a great hotel for rock and roll fans. Different bands every night. If you are not a fan, and like to go sleep ... early, forget it. The bands are loud and play until about 1 AM. If you do stay there, go out and mingle with the crowds and have fun. And by all means, eat at Doug Fir, and bring your appetite! The hotel is within walking distance of the Portland Saturday Market and Powell's Bookstore. I had a lovely weekend at the hotel.

A Must Stay for the Artist on a Budget
Meredith Nov 22, 2008
The Jupiter Hotel is awesome. Not only is it literally across the parking lot from one of the coolest music venues in ... Portland, which also happens to have amazing food, the concept/architecture is awesome. This is not a hotel you want to stay at if you're 60 and uptight. It's not a place to take your kids. My only complaint was that I was at the end of a corridor on the first floor where there was a bathroom that is shared with the little shops (there's a tatoo parlor and a hair dresser along with two Jupiter Hotel business conference room/event spaces). There was a surprise birthday party for someone on the Saturday night and pretty much most of the night there were drunk people coming in and goign out of the bathroom. So-the room wasn't too quiet. I wish I had stayed in one of the rooms with the wall murals. Mine was just white. But, I LOVE the gigantic fuzzy (looks like someone skinned Oscar the Grouch) bolster pillow. The office staff is awesome and incredibly helpful. I even learned some interesting points about the Albanian Mafia..what more can you ask for in a hotel experience?

Niko Aug 28, 2008
Jupiter Hotel is great if you are young and are interested in partying while in Portland. The Douglas Fir restaurant & ... lounge have a great little concert venue in the basement of the hotel. If you want to avoid most of the noise, get a room on the second floor at the far end of the hotel. If you are in for the party, a room across from the check-in office is the way to go.

Perfect for a place to sleep
Sarah Mar 14, 2008
The hotel was fantastic! I loved the decor of the rooms and while there is really only 1 dining option at the hotel itself, ... the DougFir is phenominal. Everyone was really helpful and friendly. The room wasn't very big but it was perfect for just a place to sleep. The chalkboard doors kept me amused for quite some times. The tent over the 1st floor room I stayed in had tables outside so I would get breakfast and sit out there with my laptop enjoying the lovely morning weather. This hotel isn't a family place but its great for just about everyone else.

What I expected
Andrea Mar 13, 2008
My stay was pretty much what I read about from other reviews and I was happy since it was what I had expected. The only ... real problem we had was that we wanted to get room service and nobody from the restaurant would pick up to take our order. When we called the front desk we were told that they don't answer when they're busy. We ended up having a delivery from Old Town Pizza which was very good, but I had wanted to try the restaurant that I'd heard so much about. The next morning we did have a great breakfast there before heading out for Newport. The bed was VERY comfortable for a hotel, especially at this price. That was one of the big reasons I chose to deal with a very small room because if I don't get a good night's sleep the rest doesn't matter. Really the room was the size of a bedroom and didn't need to be bigger for one night's sleep. For anything over two nights I'd probably want a larger room (we were in the room with one queen bed). I would definitely go back again when I'm in Portland.

Carolin Oct 7, 2007
The Jupiter hotel is definitely not for everyone. Don't stay here if you're trying for a fun family trip-- not unless you ... want to try to explain the on-location sex toy shop or the condoms left like mints on the nightstand. The amenities are utilitarian. You get a bed, you get a tv (great lineup) you get towels. If you run out of something like Tissues don't expect housekeeping to notice and fill it back up. There's always a lot going on location so it's noisy, but it's a fun party if you're interested. And I didn't have trouble sleeping. The restaurant, the Doug Fir, is awesome but gets busy at dinner. The hot water in the bathroom took a really long time to warm up but it did warm up. The premises are clean and the bed is comfortable. The location isn't that close to the rest of downtown but it is close to transportation. It was more affordable than other downtown hotels and convenient as I didn't stay on the premises much. I was satisfied with my stay.

The Jupiter was a great hotel, definately for the younger crowd as it is always loud and rowdy....music, parties, etc. But ... this is the appeal of the Jupiter, and I would stay there again. The Jupiter Hotel is located in downtown area. We travelled for an auction & arrived very late, after 1am. The area on a ... Wednesday evening was full of young people dressed in black, spiked hair & multiple piercings all over the streets...At first we were uncomfortable, but the people we passed were very friendly & we felt safe. The room was very small, art deco type decor. And the door on inside & out is a chalk board...Lobby & room both were clean and comfortable. Not a family place, but close to our auction, so for us it worked out OK...
