Just across Kalakua Ave. from hotel is Kea's Thai restaurant. It was the perfect spot for our first night in town when we wanted someplace close by that serves dinner early (remember you'll be jet-lagged if you're coming from the mainland). The food was very good.

Good value, location and convenience!!
TFA mom May 20, 2009
We had studio room with kitchenette including cooktop and microwave. It was so convenient to eat breakfast in the room and ... have the ability to pack picnic lunches. We even ate a couple of dinners on the balcony of the room on nights after very active days. It's a big saving of money and time to have a kitchenette. The hotel is not fancy but clean and nicely decorated. The property was updated about 4 years ago. Desk staff and housekeeping were very helpful. Location on De Russy park gives open, green views and easy access to jogging or walking trail. Hotel is on quieter end of Kalakua Ave. and, as Waikiki hotels go, it's well-placed to go to Nimitz highway, the H-1 or points west and north of Honolulu. Just 15 minutes from the airport. While traffic noise in Waikiki is unavoidable, the inside of the hotel is very quiet-solid construction means you don't hear people in neighboring rooms or water running, etc. Highly recommend it as a good value and pleasant spot.

Wonderful!
Alice Mar 3, 2009
This was our first trip to Hawaii, for a nephew's wedding and our 30th anniversary. The entire property was spotless--we ... even saw them scrubbing the garage driveway! All was well-lit, all brass shiny. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was wonderful, great view and plenty of storage spaces. Bed and sofa comfortable. Loved the marble floors, so much cleaner than carpets. The kitchenette had everything--but bring your own coffee and sugar. We cooked breakfasts and a full dinner with brownies for dessert. Surrounded by the Fort DeRussy Military Park, it was a very quiet location and only a short walk to shopping and the beach. You will be shocked by grocery prices, so hold out for a Foodland, much cheaper than the Food Pantry. Don't miss the Polynesian Cultural Center. Print out directions to the North Shore, it's a bit confusing if you go up the center of the island. Enterprise Car Rental is only a couple blocks away with great service. We had a WONDERFUL time!!

"Duke's on Sunday" at Duke's Canoe Club. Starts around 4 PM, right on the beach. The band is popular and the place is packed. Go early for a seat--unless you just want to dance. Great drinks!

Very helpful staff
Jennifer Jul 26, 2008
The Outrigger Luana Waikiki was a good value for the money. The room was very clean and maintained well while we were ... there. The hotel staff were very helpful on the phone and in person. They were honest about the noise level form the streets in different parts of the hotel. Upgrade to a partial oceanview room was only $10 more per evening and was very quiet in the evening given it's location on a busy road. The location on Fort DeRussey park was perfect for us because it was away from the busy tourist beach but in easy walking distance to it and all of the shops and restaurants. We enjoyed walking thorugh the park to get to the beach and enoyed watching Tai Chi class in the park form our balcony each morning. We had to park in another hotel lot for overflow which was a short block and half walk. No inconvience there either. PArking was always avialable so we did not try to change to the lot in our own hotel. The one drawback was that the pool closed at 9 and there was no hot tub. Otherwise-good hotel for the cost.

Good Location

Our bed mattress was old and uncomfortable. It made a lot of creaking noise when rolling over, and I was not able to rest ... well. However, the room was overall very clean, and Seattle's Best Coffee Shop on site was very convenient. The location is a walking distance to Waikiki Beach.

Designed for extensive stay
Mary May 24, 2008
The Outrigger Luana Waikiki was reasonably comfortable. Our room was near the elevators & not far from the laundry ... facilities & it had no view (since we chose a city view room, we really didn't expect much). We were suprised that the room had facilities for a longer stay than our two night visit(refrigerator, microwave, kitchen type sink etc.). The staff was very accomodating & it has a nice gift shop. Our son & his family stayed at the same hotel & had a more expensive room that was very nice. It had a separate bedroom, sitting room & kitchen that was well designed including a handsome bar & barstools . It would be very nice for a week's stay. There was no restaurant attached, but there was a place to grab a quick breakfast in front of the facility & lots of places to dine nearby. The beach & stores all required a short walk.

Perfect for Familes
Allison Aug 17, 2007
The Outrigger Luana was a perfect choice for my husband and I and our 3 sons. The boys shared a very spacious 1 bedroom suite ... that was just beautiful with an extremely large balcony overlooking the pool. My husband and my room was a studio which was also very spacious. Our room had a kitchen area and the boys room had a complete kitchen. The rooms were spotless and maid service was excellent everyday. It was a bit of a walk to the beach (10 minutes) and it was actually near all of Waikiki. Since it is a condo styled hotel, it does not have a full service restaurant but does have a great Seattle's Coffee shop.We enjoyed it so much we plan on going back next year!

good value for the price
Alfred Aug 15, 2007
If you need four or five star amenities then this hotel is probably not for you. However, if you want a nice clean hotel with ... a friendly staff, at a reasonable price for waikiki in August then this hotel is for you. The fitness center was more than adequate for the price ( the pool is small and no jacuzzi) and we used it every day. You are at the beginning of waikiki so it will be a short walk to the international marketplace, and/or the beach, but hey this is waikiki you should be expecting to walk. However the parking garage is extremely small and we had to park at the niketown down the street for two of our nights there. Overall though the room was clean and spacious for the price the location was good and the staff was excellent. We would stay again. 3 star value at a 3 star price.

Good Location
Dianne Aug 8, 2007
The hotel was located in good distance to the Hawaii Convention Center. I was attending a convention so it was good walking ... distance. I would have likes to have a microwave in the kitchen. It is expensive to eat out,so having a micowave to heat food would have been great. The staff was accomodating at the desk to heat my food. Overall, I was pleased with the accomodations. Except the air conditioner was a bit noisy.
