This is a great place: great location, great service, and hip vibe to boot. I've stayed at other Kimpton hotels before. This ... one isn't the hippest but it shares the general ambiance with the other properties. The location is also great, being extremely close to Grand Central but not noisy. Staff was very helpful. Rooms are a bit small but not that's not unusual in NYC. The hotel could be improved a bit by spiffing up the exterior (the blue awning looks dull and dirty). Highly recommend this place!

Go into the neighborhood near this hotel to find good deals on food. Faggioli's, a block away on 39th, has great italian for about $13 an entree. And, there's plenty of local bagel and coffee places for breakfast within three blocks.

Citysightings NY Bus Tour - a great way to get a quick tour of the city before you pick your favorite location to visit. Look into TKTS for cheap, same day, theater tickets - go the the TKTS booth in the Financial District for shorter line-ups

There is a lot of walking in New York City--a block is more like 3 blocks of where I'm from. Times Square is very crowded at night and people will run into you and not even think a thing about it--there are people going in every direction (very quickly) at the same time. A great tip I was given (that was also confirmed by two other people) is not to use the taxis in NYC--they will rip you off if you're a tourist.

Loved the hotel - we had a king size deluxe, roomier than most NYC hotels. We were on Park Ave. right near Grand Central - ... kind of a busy street but then if you walked the neighborhood you could find local restaurants off the beaten path that were so cheap! Staff was friendly and helpful, and the wine reception was every night and a nice touch. A bit pricey for parking - $62 a day for valet, but that's New York! Water pressure wasn't stellar, but passable. Overall, a good visit and we'd stay there again.

- Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly - Hotel was centrally located, with close proximity to Grand Central Station, ... Times Square, Garment District and Theatre District - Breakfast buffet at in-house SilverLeaf restaurant was over-priced ($24/person) and of sub-standard quality for the price, A quick trip around the corner to the 'Moonstruck" restaurant on 38th and Madison resulted in great food at 1/3 of the price.

A trip to remember
Tammy Aug 4, 2009
I took my daughter to New York City for her 21st birthday. The hotel staff were very friendly--the front door to the hotel ... was opened for us almost every time upon arrival and/or return. There was always ice cold water in the hotel lobby waiting our return from a lot of walking in the city. Our rooms were always very clean, with fresh towels daily and beds made during our 4-night stay. The beds and pillows were more than we expected for a hotel (excellent!). The hotel was in a great location--just 3-4 blocks from Grand Central Terminal, where we caught the subway (our main mode of transportation on this trip) and within walking distance of the Empire State Building.

70 Park Avenue was a nice location for us. We had a 20 minute walk to Central Park, a 20 minute walk to Broadway, a 20 ... minute walk to St. Patrick's Cathedral, a 5 minute walk to Grand Central ... everything was a pleasant walking distance away. Perhaps if you don't like walking as much as we do, or if you prefer to be right in the middle of the hubbub, but if you like it slightly quieter, this was just the right distance.

Nice quiet place to stay
Wanderlust Jul 6, 2009
My sister and I stayed at 70 Park Ave over Memorial Day weekend and were over all very satisfied with the hotel. The staff ... were extremely friendly. We checked in at 5pm, just as their daily wine reception began and were greeted with a glass of wine (a nice touch after a day of travel). The location of the hotel is probably one of it's greatest assests. It's only a 5 minute walk to Grand Central, so taking the subway was a reasonable option for us "first timers". We used NYAS to shuttle from the airport. They drop off and pick-up at Grand Central so there was an affordable, no hassle option in getting there from the airport. The walk to Times Square is approx 15 minutes and we found, particularly on the holiday weekend, it was very nice to be away from the hoards of tourists at Times Square. Park Ave seemed a quiet respite in comparison. I have stayed in all types of hotels, and while I generally choose 4 star accomdations, I should say that am not nearly as picky as you'll find many other reviewers. I thought the property seemed a bit older, and the rooms were rather small, but the decor and amenities in the room were quite nice. The beds were comfortable and our room did not face the street so there was no noise. I don't see any reason not to recommend this property to other travelers.

Kimpton Comfort!
Ex. Happy Traveler Jun 22, 2009
Lovely hotel, centrally located to trains and subway, which I needed to get to meetings all over Manhattan. The room was ... clean and quiet. The showerhead was large and worked beautifully! In room Yoga, and many other ammenities. The staff was most helpful with a dinner recommendation for clients. I intend to join in the 5-6pm wine tasting next trip! Morning coffee was free, and I relaxed watching the traffic go by on Park Avenue. A welcome change from other "corporate" hotels.

Unexpected comfort and luxury
Alfonso Jun 9, 2009
This hotel is nigh perfect- comfortable, good-sized room, helpful personnel, nice lobby, reasonable room rates, perfect ... location. Loved the bed, the terry robes, the huge flat-screen TV, the flat pillows, the free weekday NY Times, the coffee and breakfast next door. Perhaps the only "con" might be that our bathroom was a little cramped, but it was an insignificant detraction to the entire experience. Pretty much everything about this hotel exceeded expectations.
