Five star price for a two star room
johnes Sep 8, 2009
The Hotel is conveniently located on the shore of Lake Louise. It is also a convenient jumping off point to explore the ... Kootenay and Yoho National Parks. However there are other hotels in the area that may be a better value. Be aware that purchase of a room through Orbits will not get you a lakeside room unless they specifically say so. Most of the lakeside rooms seemed to be reserved for bus tours. This is a grand old five star hotel with historic and wonderfully maintained common areas, and gardens between the property and the lake. These however are open to the general public with a separate parking area. Specifically, my room was at best a two start room, in a five star hotel. The bed was extremely soft and uncomfortable; the TV was 12 to 14 inches and tube type. The room overlooked a roof, and if you opened the window there was a diesel generator running 24 hours a day. I have stayed in five star hotels all over the world and would recommend visiting this hotel, but not staying here as it is not a good value. Further they charge $25 per night for self parking and had a $67 bar bill slipped onto my bill which was promptly removed when disputed.

The hotel is at Lake Louise, so it has a fantastic setting. The room was lovely, with lots of charm. Food in the various ... restaurants was of mixed quality. For the most part you do not get value for the price paid. The Deli and the Lounge are the best.

Check out Moraine Lake, Bow Lake, and Peyto Lake in addition to Lake Louise. They all have something beautiful worth seeing (and we saw a bear while driving around!)

Upon checkin, we were informed that 1 of our reservations (2 rms) had been given a complimentary upgrade from a Junior Ste. ... to a 1 Bdrm Ste. Not only was the Junior Ste large, but the 1 Bdrm was extra big for a family of 4. The rooms were nice (old world charm), BUT the view was unbelievable. We sat out back by the lake and it was so amazing that it felt like a fake Hollywood backdrop with the mountains, lake and glacier. I would highly recommend this hotel, worth the money. The Glacier Saloon was relaxing and great for the kids. The Front Desk always went above and beyond to handle any requests. The only negative is that there are so many ppl during the day, but around 5pm it really quiets down. Great experience for our 7 day trip including Banff and Jasper.

Outstanding hotel, great view
Bob the photo nut Aug 24, 2009
In our week at the hotel, we hiked, did GREAT photography, ate too much delicious food, and had a wonderful time. When we ... arrived the front desk "apologized" for the weather, cool and drizzling rain. We were coming from Texas with 2 months of 100+ degree heat and the worst drought in years. Apology? We thought it was great. The next 6 days were beautiful!! The staff was friendly and very helpful.

great hotel, small room
miriam Aug 9, 2009
The special rate meant also a small room. A luxury hotel wonderful to walk through and right on the lake, with a great easy ... trail right on the water's edge. But the room--Pricey even at a cut rate and a few more amenities would have been welcome. The four diamond restaurant has great service but the food is average.

Beyond Belif!!
Jerry Aug 7, 2009
Ecerything absolutely perfect with one exception. I deeply bruised and then cut my leg rather badly on the block holding the ... bed off the floor. A king sized murphy bed that jammed you into a table when you tried to go one side. The table should have been much smaller...or square vs round. Kind of a weird arrangement. But all the other stuff offset that downside.

Great Location, Dissapointing hotel
Mat Aug 5, 2009
This hotel is horrible for the price. The location is great, but of the 5 hotels i stayed on this trip, this was by far the ... worst experience. The Room had no AC, the windows barely opend and for 3 nights we slept at ~26C, 80F while sweating. Also the interenet did not work and i spent 1 hr troubleshooting with some service center guy at an offsite location, worse yet they wanted to charge $15 a night for this bad internet. Other details, the room was not cleaned one day, the hair dryer was broken, and oh yeah parking is $35 a day. There are other alpine lakes and resorts nearby, where i imagine the experince would of been great, and the 3 minute walk to the lake would be easy.

Amazing view and restaurants, but no A/C
Michael Aug 3, 2009
Everything about this amazing hotel met or exceeded our expectations, EXCEPT: the room was rather small, hard to get around ... in with two suitcases, the bathroom was tiny, and there was NO air conditioning, which is probably fine 98% of the time, but we were there when it was quite hot out, and it made sleeping at night not so pleasant. Quite a surprise for what I would refer to as a four star hotel. Also: it is definitely worth it to pay extra for a lake view room, the view is unsurpassed!

Take an evening meal on the patio at the Lakeview Lounge; can't beat the view, and the Reuben sandwich is to die for, best ever in my life.

THE SERVICE WAS FABULOUS
jh Jul 13, 2009
It was a fabulous location! The view of Lake Louise was great. The history and old time elegance was wonderful! The ... service was great and very personal. The staff really make this beautiful hotel very special. The rooms were very small (keeping with the nature of an older hotel). Our room was also very very warm. Even with the overhead fan, a table top fan and the windows open it was almost unbearable. I would still go back at least for a day or two -- it is a wonderfully special hotel.

Great hotel
CaliforniaBidder May 27, 2009
When we got to the hotel, they did not have a reservation for us. Apparently, Orbitz never forward our information to the ... hotel. Luckily I had a copy of the Orbitz confirmation email. After the front desk personnel checked with management inside, he graciously gave us the room and stated that the hotel will deal with Orbitz directly instead of having us do it. We were impressed with the way the whole thing was handled. The rest of the hotel stay matched the same superior service we received at the check-in. The Jr. suite room we stayed at was nicely decorated and very roomy. The hotel ground was well maintained. The only regret is that Lake Louise was frozen. Overall, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a pricy hotel, but we do feel like we got our money worth.
