Staff did job, but customer was not first. rooms were adjoining after we moved the refrigerator, which didn't work. Beds ... worked for sleeping, as long as you didn't move, sqeeked a lot, all of them. Guess I expected too much for so little. What's the deal with having to pay $5.33 per day for parking. Well, hope you had a good week-end. I'm usually not a complainer, but I made the reservation for the group.

staff friendly but with hotel empty parking lot she was trying to make me believe all rooms were booked... hehehe... funny... ... rooms are OLD and air condition units are nightmares noisy... beautiful setup right on the beach with EXCELLENT HUGE pool that they take very good care of. if you plan to stay out all day and sleep with ear plugs then this place should be ok for you.

i will never stay there again, and don't recommend it to anyone.kitchen, discussing, stove should have been thrown out year's ... ago.rusted bad. bathroom ,had to be the worse iv'e been in.plus we had to pay 5 dollar's a day just to park in the motel's parking area.that place if we had seen it,like it really was, would never have gotten a dime from us.the smell was also bad,and the door to the balcony should have been replaced.no one could sit on the balcony, because the air conditioner was so old ,that it blew heat directly on you.a very disappointing stay.we left and went to orlando, got a room for 15 dollar's cheaper,100% better.

Gika Aug 17, 2009
There was an electrical fire on the 3rd floor and smoke on the 3rd and 4th floors. We had to stay out of the building for 2 ... hours. It was quite frightening for the children, having to leave the room when the fire alrm went off. After the fire department and police said it was clear to go back to our room, the 3rd and 4th floors would not be open; the hotel manager and employees were quite nice and offered another room on a higher floor or a room at another one of their hotels. The children were still afraid, so we went to another hotel that was offered.

Hotel had easy access to beach was able to watch the sunrise each morning. However I would recommend mattress replacement ... and bathroom renovations. Close to Daytona International Speedway and other attractions. Good continental b-fast - nothing hot. Recommend bringing beach towels, chairs, and your pillow! Again, cannot beat the price for the location!

I went across the street to eat to the Red Lobster, it was good. I think the hotel should have some sort of food on the pool area. We stayed at the Hawaian Hotel before and we enjoed the hamburgers and fries they have in the Hut at the pool.

What a diff a single star rating makes!!
Tini Jul 29, 2009
I actually checked into this hotel, but my room type was not what I reserved, so all was refunded and I switched to the ... Hilton. The differences between this hotel and the Hilton were so great that I cannot believe how this can only be a single star difference!! I would rate the Islander hotel a 2 star. It seemed clean, the staff was very nice, looked like they offered a good happy hour special, but it was very out of date. Beds seemed old, there was an old safe exposed with the lock ripped out, which had been replaced by a newer safe in another area of the room. If you're on a strict budget, this would be a good choice... you could definitely do worse from what I saw. The one advantage of the hotel was that it was in a small area of condos and other okay looking hotels that looked safe. It was still a huge jump down from the north near the Hilton, but a huge jump up from many of the other hotels in the area that looked very unsafe. It was a big disappointment to me because I use to come to Daytona many years ago. It was a great beach to come to. The city leaders would have had to try and destroy the area for what I saw now. Many of the hotels looked very unsafe. I couldn't believe it... what a shame.

I visited friends that live at Daytona and stayed there a couple nights pre hotel registration. I got this room for my wife ... to have an ocean view and make it special for her 60th birthday---what a disaster. My wife use to be hotel registration for the American Red Crosss for National Conventions------this hotel would never had been selected and none would return to it if it had been. With the times and the economy it seems to me hotels would cater for business and RETURN business it wont happened at theis place.
