Mandalay Bay was beautiful and clean. The lobby was gleaming. Strip view room was wonderful, nice layout. Didn't swim (it was ... Jan)but the pool was very nice. Big screen TV. Downsides: We were in a non smoking room and the neighbors were smoking (defeated the purpose...maybe a non smoking floor would have been better?) Bed was not that comfortable. Neighbors were loud...but it was Vegas. Also, despite the tram to Luxor and Exclabur, it was really quite a ways a way. The Tram only runs until 1030. One night it took us an hour to get back to the room from Bellagio taking the monorail and tram.

Nice hotel except for the smell of smoke
anonymous Jan 31, 2010
This is a great hotel. The only complaint is that the smell of cigarette smoke was overwhelming. This was not just in the ... casino, but also throughout the hotel. Even on our hotel room floor it didn't go away, and we had a non-smoking room. I have not had this problems at other hotels on the strip. High end hotel, high end prices......
likes to get money worth Jan 27, 2010
Hotel is near airport - can hear every plane and helicopter leaving airport. Hotel is very noisy, can hear all hall noise, ... people coming and going at all hours, can hear every little sound. Hotel maintenance was fair, drain the shower did not drain well causing mold type condition, thinking I got a foot fungus from the floor. Door on toilet squeeked so loud woke other person up when using at night. Nickel and dimed us to death. Can get a personal refrigerator but at $20/day. With the price of the rooms I was expecting a lot more for my dollar. Everything is ala-cart there is an fee for every extra thing. Resturants were very expensive the buffet in the hotel was $38/person. If they want to attract people then it would be nice to get a reasonable meal. Shark reef was GREAT! Pools-only one open but it was off season, would not ever stay here again in off season the only thing going for the hotel is its wonderful pools. Very high end hotel, workers somewhat friendly but won't go out of their way for you. Not worth the money will probably not stay here again, there are a lot of more reasonable hotels on the strip that have cool pools. This hotel is the last one NORTH of strip not in the heart of the strip. Have to take taxi or bus to the heart of the strip. We were really looking forward to this trip by the website of Mandalay Bay and was disappointed when we left. Not the happening place at night either, was kinda slow even on Fri and Sat nights. Save your money and stay at MGM, Monte Carlo, Flamingo, Harrahs or Ceasars in the heart of Vegas. Room was very cold, especially by the windows, they open and I think were leaking air, was very cold in this room and we are from Michigan we know cold......

"Good prices on an okay hotel"
TannerBoyl Jan 25, 2010
I checked into the Mandalay Bay Hotel late on a Thursday night. The line was short and I was happy that they had enough ... staff working so late. The staff was very friendly and polite. I was able to get a room with a view of the strip.Upon arrival to my room, I noticed that the bathroom reeked of stale cigarette smoke. I called down to the front desk and within 10 minutes a guy came up to spray a deodorizer. He sprayed the vents in the room and along the floors. Then he sprayed the bathroom floors, walls and corners. It really didn't help, but at least it didn't make it worse. Thankfully, I didn't spend too much of my weekend in the bathroom! The only other problem with the bathroom was that the wallpaper in the toilet room looked like it was a former murder scene that was cleaned up. There were traces of a reddish liquid that had dripped down the walls. Once again, I was fortunate that I didn't have to spend much of my trip there. The rest of the room was clean. Another complaint was that the walls didn't seem very thick. I could hear the party-girls across the hall [*] The room decor was stylish. The bed had a pillow-top mattress that was too soft and offered no support. The best way for me to describe it is soft but lumpy. Not a positive point, but I didn't spend much time on this trip sleeping. My room was on the 27th floor and had an amazing view. At night, the lights of the strip provided enough light where I could stumble my way to the restroom without stubbing my toe, yet it was dark enough that I could sleep. I slept with the curtains open. At dawn, I awoke to see the most amazing purple colored sky. It was so vivid and breathtaking that for a moment I became introspective and pondered my place in life before I passed out again. The next time that I awoke, I had a splitting headache [*].The casino was lively and bustled with the energy you should expect from a Las Vegas strip hotel. There were $10 minimum tables, but most of the tables were $15-25 minimum. Then again, you don't become rich by betting minimums. Unfortunately, it was not my destiny to become rich. [*] Things didn't end well. All in all, the Mandalay Bay hotel was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The casino was fun. The drinks were stiff and plentiful. I would stay there again if I could get the same rate that I got from [...]

Mandalay Bay - hotel nice, staff just ok
Southern Gal Jan 24, 2010
The hotel and casino at Mandalay Bay are beautiful. The restaurants are great. However, the staff is a bit unfriendly. ... Also, we requested a king sized by, and it was unavailable at first - had to wait until after 2:00 p.m. the next day to be able to move. Also, they tried to charge for "missing" minibar items which were not there when we checked in at 12:30 in the morning. When we asked it be taken off of our bill, we got an arguement before it was finally removed. Overall, the hotel is superb, but the staff leaves something to be desired.

All the attractions we went to were a let down. Bodies was like a living anatomy textbook, wasn't as cool as I thought it would be; Madame Tussaud's was OK, and the Bellagio Art Gallery sucked- they don't have a permanent collection so the current showing was some local contemporary art. I thought they had Van Goghs and stuff. Be prepared to pay about 2x as much for everything in Las Vegas than you would at home. Breakfast for 4 ran $60-70 at Raffles.
