Although we were only there one night on our way to a family gathering, everything was perfect at the Sofitel. The room was ... clean and very comfortable and the staff was very nice. They have great food and wine available in the bar/lobby area which is perfect if you arrive late in the evening. The French-inspired gift shop is also great for browsing or if you forgot something. The beds at the Sofitel are the best. So comfortable.

Back in the Minne Apple
spidermans emjae Oct 27, 2009
Lived in the TC for 5 years, went back to visit friends and see the peak fall colors. Chose Sofitel, because I had been to a ... couple of events there, and I really didn't want to stay Downtown. Went to Aamodt's Farm in Stillwater - great date, had reservations to ride a hot air balloon, but it was cancelled because of the weather. Instead we did wine tasting and walked around the vineyard. The hotel was convenient/close for our ride on 494 East. The hotel is kind of swanky in a retro way. I think $100 a night was a good value, wouldn't want to pay any more than that. I went out to an early breakfast, came back around 1pm and my bed still wasn't made! I had to ask for someone to come clean the room. I wasn't going to be back until very late and didn't want to take the chance that it would not be cleaned before the staff went home. The valet closes at 10pm. The front desk staff did not tell me that it was complimentary, which was annoying. The restaurant and bar closed early, because there was a wedding party in the hotel. The bar has no set hours they just kind of open and close whenever.

Nice for Business Travel
east coast lady Oct 18, 2009
I was there with a colleague for business. The rooms were smaller than I expected and they did not look as nice as the ... website. The bed was very soft with just a duvet cover over a down comforter and no top sheet. I personally found this to be annoying. Also the view from our room was a parking lot. OK for business travel when you are not in the room except to sleep. To be fair, the room was clean, the dining good and the staff was very polite.

Absolutely elegant pampering get away
Lisa OT Oct 18, 2009
The room was gorgeous. Huge and fluffy puffs on the beds, flat screen TV, the bathroom was luxuriously ... appointed.......granite, glass, plenty of hot water through rain shower. Huge towels, elegantly fragranced soaps and shampoo. I felt truely pampered and hated to leave. They have a great bakery for european style treats with great coffee.

Not worth it
Jan Aug 17, 2009
I was very excited about staying here. The pictures made the hotel look very elegant. The rooms are very roomy but when ... asked about a rollaway we were told that Fire Marshall would not allow and then next time they were out of them. Also, the beds have a down comforter encased in sheet like material but there is no top sheet and the rooms stay hot even at the coolest setting. I also wondered how many other people had slept under that comforter without a benefit of a wash. I just really don't think they would clean it each time. Maybe but I just doubt it. And the simplest things that you expect in a hotel like a coffee maker were not included.

This hotel was close to the Mall of America and IKEA stores without the high prices found at the hotels right by the mall. We were 10 minutes from the mall, but could easily get on the highway and be there quickly and with no traffic hassle.
