Mixed Bag of Good/Bad
Ron the Grampa Nov 29, 2009
Although the hotel was visually very nice, the service was a mixed bag. The front desk room staff were fantastic. Great ... workout room. However, the dining and bar service was very slow and understaffed. Likewise the coffee/pastry bar had customers backed up sometimes 6 or 7 deep waiting for a single person to operate both the expresso machine and handle purchases. Food value was very poor. I will not hesitate to stay there again if the price is right but will choose to eat elsewhere.

the appearance at first glance is wonderfull but the hotel is old and needs to update the rooms. TV not working properly ... (issues on going) telephone issues were supposed to be repaired-no phone in room. Housekeeping was deaf to my requests even after complaining to the general manager. Poor hot water flow also.

Peaceful Location
Ken Oct 19, 2009
I like this place because you can generally get great quality for a reasonable price. This is partly because the hotel isn't ... exactly "centrally located" to night life and great restaurants but that's a good thing if you're looking for some rest and relaxation. You're into downtown San Francisco in about 20 minutes.

Overall a good experience
j Oct 7, 2009
Overall we enjoyed our stay. A few comments on various aspects: Location: The location was good for us, as were doing ... medical treatments in San Mateo. We also went into the city (SF) several times and each time it was a very quick easy trip in. HOWEVER, you do need a car, as there is nothing close the the hotel except a big business park. Downtown San Mateo is 5 minutes away and has great shops as does another small town a few minutes away...but you are NOT in San Fran, and it is a bit of a drive to get in. Hotel Staff: We were very pleased with the hotel staff and accomodations. Room: The room is pretty average for 4 star. It was clean and average size. We did have an issue the first night (toilet overflowed) which was unpleasant, but the staff handled it quickly and appropriately.

Good Choice - Suited our needs
OC SAM Aug 16, 2009
I had a Friday AM business meeting in Hayward, so I took my wife up to San Francisco and San Jose for the weekend. This ... facility was ideally situated between the three, being near the west end of the San Mateo Bridge to Hayward, and halfway (roughly) between SF and SJ. We stopped by there mid-morning and the hotel had no problem with early check-in so my wife had a place to freshen up and rest after our flight while I conducted my business. We did not try the amenities of the hotel and we found the food at the hotel to be first-rate, if a little pricey. We had a good experience overall.

Although the location is perfect for doing business with Oracle, my visit was a family party in Belmont, two miles away. I ... loved my beautiful, quiet room and nice textiles for relaxing after long hours with the relatives. I enjoyed a pleasant Caesar salad and cocktail at the bar. Sorry I didn't have time to lay around the pool as planned.

Didn't Meet Expectations
kbj Jul 11, 2009
Visiting San Francisco and San Jose area and the location was perfect. The room was described as luxury and would be better ... described as ordinary. Our second day there, we received notice that the pool would be unavailable from noon until 10 p.m. due to a private event. The private event took over the entire hotel, with loud music and obnoxious, drunk party goers taking over the hotel.

My husband and I stayed three nights for my brother's graduation at Stanford. Not only was it a great location but the hotel ... itself was just impeccable. The staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to be accomodating. Due to a very delayed flight, we didn't check in until almost midnight but there was no problem and the staff was there to welcome us.

I am not a smoker but I chose a smoking room due to the fact that I could open the window and enjoy a beautiful view and some ... nice air. My first night there was a DJ night and the pool area had people enjoying the night; I could have avoided the noise simply by shutting my window. I was very comfortable and felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. They offered webTV, which is not the greatest so I only used it for 15 before it locked up. They were quick to respond to issues I had with the keyboard. The toilet was a noisy one, it was quite loud after being flushed. It took nearly 15 minutes before the noise subsided.

We booked the night before arrival and just stayed one night. I was pleasantly surprised when we entered our room. It was ... large with a sitting area and a king size bed that was extremely comfortable. I felt like I was sleeping in a feather bed. We had a view of the water which was a bonus. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not see any other part of the hotel as we were in and out but I would definitely stay at a Sofitel again if they are all like this one. And the value was incredible. I could not believe I was paying so little for such a great room.

John May 23, 2009
We were on the eigth floor with a "lagoon view." The room was well appointed and quiet. It was convenient to SFO (San ... Francisco airport) and the city for easy access. Our business was in San Jose, just to the south, so we were positioned to easily reach San Francisco and the wine country and do our business in San Jose. There are several restaurants within the immediate area along with the "Nob Hill" grocery store. We felt secure and the room was comfortable. One tip; don't leave anything visible in your car in San Francisco - the window on our rental was broken for a bag on the back seat near Lombard Street. We thought we were the only ones broken into until we went to the police station where we found that we were part of a long line of folks who had their cars vandalized. The Hiller Air Museum is a must see and it is only minutes from the Sofitele - we didn't have children with us yet the Museum had several fun and educational exhibits for them as well.
