Small, grubby room in fine location

Milford Nov 1, 2009

We spent as little time as possible in our room. A small double bed had been squeezed into the room against a wall so that ... one of the occupants had to climb in. The end of the bed by the door and the bed covers prevented the door from closing. The room was dark and tiny, with little storage and two people could not move in the room at the same time. Carpet was soaking, towels and bed linen were grubby. Breakfast area was dingy with poor food. We had reserved a deluxe room but the room we had could in no way be described as deluxe. How this qualifies for 3 stars is very difficult to understand. [...]We are currently negotiating a refund.

A pleasant stay

LGEC Oct 28, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The location of this hotel was perfect for sightseeing and proximity to public transportation. Our room was a bit small and ... no air conditioning, but it was very clean and the bed comfortable. Ceiling fan provided adquate ventilation. Staff was extremely helpful with travel directions. Light breakfast was adequate but sparse on choice of foods. Overall, a good value for the money.

Great Location

Peg Oct 23, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Loved location and proximity to Union Square. Hotel was charming but no A/C. Had to leave windows open on street side which ... was very noisy with garbage trucks at 4 a.m. Continental breakfast would be great if they added cereal to the bagels and sweet rolls. After all that, I would recommend it and would stay there again. Price out-weighed any inconvenience.

Great location but tiny rooms

Ace Oct 19, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip. Prime location if you have a business meeting/course or touring near the ... downtown area. Only 2 blocks away from the Union Square. 5 blocks away from the nearest BART train station. Half the price compare to other hotels in the same area. The sacrifice for the price is the size of the room. Too small just for a single (double bed), can't imagine if I brought my wife along. Be warned that they don't have air conditioning because it's an old hotel. They do have a ceiling fan in each room. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. I walked in my room and a strong dirty sock odor almost knocked me out, they switched my room immediately without hassel. However, the new room I got switched to was on 2nd floor right above the bar. The noise and music from the bar continues till 1am each night. Nearby restaurants are a Japanese place, 3 Thai/Indonesian places. What's great is that there's a small convenience shop 2-3 doors down where you can get some fruits/snacks/drinks. Overall, great value if you're traveling single (students).

Great location, Terrible hotel

Mrs.Klunt Oct 11, 2009

We went to San Francisco to see a play. The hotel was in a great location. The problem was we were given a room on the ground ... floor by the street. The TV did not work. WE asked to be moved and they told us they couldn't do that. People were banging on the front door of the hotel all hours of the night to get in because their key card would not work. They were even banging on the window of our room. After about an hour of this the night manager got up and let them in. They had a continental breakfast in the morning. I went to check it out and it was full of gnats. The parking was $45 if we'd have done our homework a little more we would have known that right behind the building was a $25 lot. I would not stay here again.

Well..... Where do I start?

carang Sep 22, 2009

Went to S.F. for a mini getaway. Hotel was very cute but very old . The man at the front desk was just starting his shift ... when we arrived and either he was still half asleep or he was drunk. Took about 20 minutes to get checked in. The elevator made us a little nervous because it was so old. (like the ones on the Titantic movie)The hotel only has 4 floors so not too bad.No one told us about the continential breakfast in the basement ... yes the basement. This is also where you will find the ice machine. The worst part for me was there was no AC. The hotel is very stuffy and warm. Could definately use some upgrading. And don't wander too far from here at night, prostitutes for days!!

overbooked and unimpressed

58 ragtop Aug 20, 2009

Precarious spring loaded elevator gate has a taste for human fingers. We paid for an upgrade to a larger room with a queen ... size bed, were shoehorned into a tiny room, small enough to barely walk around the double bed. " overbooked " was the reason and no attempt at compensation was made. Continental breakfast, located in the bowels of the hotel, right next to housekeeping, consisted of stale, day-old pastries, with a tub of margarine melting away at room temperature. Still hoping for some sort of refund.....

Not anything like the pictures state!

upcbrats Jul 31, 2009

We arrived at the hotel having expected parking as you would any hotel but were told by the front desk attendant that a ... parking structure down the road had parking for 25$.. after seeing our shocked faces he let us know in a very rude voice that " we are in downtown sf... one of the most expensive places you can be staying"... then after ignoring us completly for more than 5 minutes he proceeded to check us in.. he gave me no information about check out time or even the fact that there was a continental breakfast at all... his behavior was a uncalled for and then placed us in a room that faced the street where we were awake all night from the city noise.. we were not impressed to say the least..

Great room for the price

Monica Oct 22, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

I thought this hotel was cute and perfect for the price. The room was not that small, it was a normal sized room, it's a good ... location for shopping in union square, we felt safe walking there at any time, the staff was friendly, I couldn't have asked for more. It had that great old San Fran attitude to it. I thought it was great.
