Good hotel - would recommend
RC Sep 21, 2009
Very nicely located, especially if you have a car (we didn't try the Metro so don't know about that). Ample parking. Near all ... the major highways (turns out Montreal is a pretty small place after all), nice fast-food and restaurants nearby, on main road that runs the length of Montreal, so very easy to drive around and then find the hotel again. Tiny indoor pool (but clean), decent jacuzzi and sauna; large outdoor pool but too cold to swim. One downside: no exhaust fan in bathroom-plus-toilet - with folks sharing the toilet, this was ridiculous!!

Use this hotel if you will be based in Montreal but may want to visit Quebec, as we did.

OK, not Great
Senior Traveller Aug 23, 2009
Some of the reviews I read before I booked said "great location" - which it is if all you want to see is the Olympic Statium. ... It's a big distance from downtown or Old Montreal and even the Metro is a hike if you are a Senior Citizen or disabled. Cabs are expensive. The Gray Line bus wouldn't pick us up or drop us off for a day trip to Quebec because it is so far from downtown. Service in the hotel was excellent - really nice people. The Reception area and rooms were spotless, the corridors less so, especially around the elevator. The food in the restaurant was not very good, but we made do with bar food which was reasonable and very tasty. We didn't use the pools, but the outside one looked OK. In short, this is probably equivalent to a three star hotel but not a four.

This hotel is amazing! We loved the location and the convenience to the subway. The hotel desk clerks were very ... accommodating and went out of their way to help us when we asked anything. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The common areas were well kept and very fancy. The outdoor pool was very nice and warm!! The lifeguard was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay there again.

The front desk staff was very friendly. We got to the hotel a little early, and attempted to checkin two hours before the ... standard time, since that wasn't possible, they offered to provide us with free internet access. We then took a 5 minute drive to the downtown shops & street vendors, to do a little shopping and eat. The food tasted great.

My review of Hotel Auberge Universel Montreal
Richard Sep 18, 2008
The room was a pleasant surprise. My wife kept asking me if I was sure that I only paid what I told her. It was spacious, ... clean and comfortable. The location was great. Just outside of downtown. Free parking at the hotel was a plus. Walking distance from the Olympic Park and Botanical Gardens. Nice restaurant!

If you want to be part of the city, buy a 3 day pass to the museums and metro at the front desk. It's good for 3 days and for $50.00 you can travel and have free access to all the museums and most of the attractions. It's great fun!

Our stay at the Auberge Universal completely exceeding our expectations, and made our visit to Montreal that much more ... satisfying. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, I mean they were absolutely great. They advised us on how to get around, offered a shuttle to the metro, which by the way is within walking distance, which was a convenient route we also took. The room was clean and comfortable. Parking was free!!

lack of security
Adijat Apr 19, 2008
it was really a great visit for me except the fact that someone broke into my car and stole my GPS. though it was written ... outside on the billboard when coming in, but the hotel staff suppose to remind you when you are checking in, because my mind has escaped it, to remove the all items in the car. and that was my first visit to montreal, i think the hotel lacks security. maybe they need to put more light or have someone to stay at the parking lot or the staff shoud always confirm if anyone has anything in the car that will atttract the thief to remove it, some might not even have the time to read it outside. am planning of coming Aug again and i pray if you guys take action on that issue, except that am very okay with the service.

This room was very confortable and convenient: nice beds, TV, chairs, a bathroom AND a room with sink and mirror, that is ... convenient when you share the room. Access to a pool and a jakouzi: the pool was big and pleasant.
