A pleasure in every way
Dawne, happy camper Nov 21, 2009
My husband and I hoped to find some fall colors before the snow set in, so we chose the Sierra Vista Scenic Loop for our ... roadtrip, located near Oakhurst. We were wonderfully rewarded by staying at the Shilo Inn there. Not only were the rooms perfectly comfortable and adequate with lots of amenities, they were layed out really well and were very clean. They were also most affordable. We had a forest view too. The continental breakfast offered unique tasty fare with not just carbs but lots of protein. Most notable was staff who went way beyond the call of duty to get us out of a reservation snafu we made. This would not have happened without the wonderful customer service philosophy of the Shilo Inn chain. By the way, the scenic loop is a must do if you want to see California gold.

Make sure you bring along sweaters or sweatshirts just in case. It is pretty cold in the morning under the trees or in the shade. We went in September and even though it was supposed to be warm during the day, the morning was COLD!

Yosemite National park is just 15 miles away and takes approx around 1/2 hr by drive. Oakhurst is a good place to stay when going through south entrance.

An Oakhurst Gem
Have Car, Will Travel Sep 27, 2009
I needed a handicapped accessible room for my legally blind mother, her guide dog and me. I'd indicated that in the ... reservation, but when I checked two days before our trip, I found that information hadn't gotten through to the hotel. Half an hour later, [...] from the front desk called back to reassure me that we would have just what we needed and that the room was "locked" so even with our planned arrival around midnight the room would be ours. When we arrived, the Front Desk staff member was helpful and check-in was a breeze. The next morning, [...] greeted me and asked if our room was what we needed. It was. We had a lovely walk in shower with plenty of support bars and space also for Mom's dog to be right near the bed. (Our room even included a kitchen area with a small refrigerator, sink, microwave and coffee maker so we saved some money on our meals.)Breakfast was included, and not just coffee and rolls. We had our choice of freshly made waffles, hardboiled eggs, toast, bagels and the fixings, muffins, breakfast burritos, oatmeal, cold cereal, yogurt and fruit. We also had the option of milk, coffee, tea, cocoa, hot apple cider, and several types of juice. We were slightly out of town, so the hotel was quiet. Our room was to the back, so we didn't even have road noise. I don't know if that would be an issue even in front-facing rooms, because the hotel is set back from Highway 41.

We went to visit Yosemite. The staff at the Shilo was very friendly. The Continental breakfast was nice to wake up to. The ... only issue was a leaky air conditioner that was resolved the first day.

Yosemite Hotel Stay
Traveler Sep 9, 2009
Hotel was excellent, room was setup in a great manner. The reception was good and the breakfast was great. The only issue ... but a major issue is that the bathroom was not neat and the fixtures were old and needs to be remodeled.

Shilo Inn Oakhurst
Jenny Sep 7, 2009
Great value for the price. Room was quite large, included a small kitchen and sofa bed. The buffet breakfast was excellent. ... The place is pet friendly for those travel with their pets. If you can not get a place to stay in Yosemite then this is a great second choice. It took about 90 minutes each day to drive into Yosemite Valley but the drive was beautiful.
