AFTER I booked my 'Cheap of the Week' package deal that included air fare, car rental, and hotel stay. A friend who lives near San Francisco mentioned that some hotels in the city don't have parking facilities. So, after looking in the hotel's small print section of it's website I learned that there was no on-site parking, and to keep my rental car at the hotel via valet service, it would cost an additional $30+ per day. After paying another $138 for a 4 night stay, my 'cheap' trip wasn't so cheap!!!Read all of the fine print BEFORE you book your economical trip!!!!!!Shame on Cheap Tickets for including a rental car in a package where the hotel it listed charges extra to accomodate.

DO NOT STAY THERE!!!
vlad Oct 17, 2009
The hotel is in a very bad neighborhood, you should not stay there. We almost got robbed in front of the hotel, our car was ... broken into during the night and part of the personnel is unfriendly. DO NOT stay in Nob Hill or Tenderloin if u go to San Francisco. The conditions are ok, but u get no breakfast and if u want to have parking, it is an extra $30/night. One of the worst experiences I have had with hotels.

Wonderful Place!
Jan Aug 4, 2009
I absolutely love this place! The location is perfect for exploring all that San Francisco has to offer. My young daughter ... and I were traveling by ourselves and we felt safe there and in the surrounding area. Thanks to the staff, we were able to figure out the public transportation system and how to get around in an unfamiliar city. The hotel itself is older and certainly the rooms are not sound-proof, but that didn't seem to bother us as much as some other reviewers. The hotel is charming, quirky, and quaint. The staff is super-helpful and friendly. The little wine party each evening is a nice touch. The price was reasonable. I don't think I would even look up another hotel if we were to return to San Francisco - my daughter and I both thought this was the best, most fun hotel experience of our entire California trip.

I arrived with a friend for a 5 night stay. Our room was next to the elevator, reason why it was a little noisy. Over all, ... the hotel was nice and confortable. Airport shuttle was $16.00 and taxis did not exceed $15.00. San Francisco is a really small city with many things to do, I will definitly go back.

We only stayed in San Francisco for two days, but staying at the Hotel Carlton allowed us to see a huge amount of San ... Francisco. It is located almost in the heart of the city, and close to several public transit routes, so anything you want to see in the city is easily accessible. The staff is very helpful; anything you could need for an enjoyable stay is only a request away.

My wife and I visited for a concert, which was not far from the hotel. The hotel staff was extremely courteous and even let ... us check-in early at no extra charge. They mentioned a complimentary upgrade, though I saw no significant difference, but everything was very nicely arranged and put together. Bed and bath were clean and staff was extremely kind. Do not bring a car. You can get anywhere in San Francisco without one! Taxis, buses, shuttles, everything is easy to come by.

It was a far walk from BART or trolleys, but close to city busses. The staff was extremely helpful in showing us the best way ... to get to our destinations, which was nice. For a tourist, it is not right in the middle of the action, but affordable. Because of no air conditioning, we had to sleep with windows open and it got noisy early.

My husband and I were there for business and pleasure and so the location fit both of our agendas well. Although the staff ... goes above and beyond to be helpful, the fact that the hotel is old can not be avoided. The doors do not keep out even the smallest of noises which left us poorly rested the entire visit. The decor of the room was minimalistic and the standard comforts were available including a better than average coffe maker, alarm and hair dryer. Unfortunately, the bathroom had dirt on the exterior where the tiles meet the tub. A highlight was the restaurant which we had breakfast at two times. We found the yogurt, fruit, and granola mix to be yummy considering the simplicity. Granted, it was $9, but it was so good that we gladly had it two days in a row. The concierges did a fantastic job of recommending restaurants and transportation options. They know the area perfectly and are to be commended. We recommend Modern Thai as a dinning option that is good in quality and soft on the pocket book. If you like Italian, but want fresh sea food, go to North Beach, 552 Green (I think) a place called Mare Sotto Oysteria and Seafood. If you stay here, just bring ear plugs and you will be sure to have a good experience overall.

Staff members were very friendly & helpful, the room was clean & had a nice international decor/ambience. The hotel is very ... convenient to the California cable car line and close to bus lines. There are good coffee shops & bars within several blocks, as well as a couple of small grocery/convenience shops. Noise problems involved the coming & going of nightowl guests who had too much to drink, & frequent sirens from the city streets- not much the staff can do about either one.
