Looks and sounds good, but isnt all that Dec 8, 2009
I was on the 15th Floor in a Premier River View 2 Queen bed room. It was me and 3 other friends. First the room was clean the ... bathroom was almost as big as the room nice marble floors in the bathroom.. But the first impression of the bathroom quickly faded. I'm a night owl so at around 3:30am I go to take a shower while my roomies are sleep. I turn the water on, and preceed to check weather on the laptop. About 5 minutes later I go to get in the shower, and its frigid. So im like okkkk So I sat there and played with the sink making sure it had hot water coming out and it did, but the shower still spewed cold water. So i went down to the front desk, told them of my situation and they sent an engineer up to my room within 10min. After about thirty min he finally got the shower working correctly. Water ALL over the floor that got on the floor from him working on it for 25 min... Anyways so I towel all the water up, get in the shower, water isnt hot, but its doable. I open the glass swinging door out of the shower and step out and instantly slip forward into a split. I caught myself before it became disatarous I am a guy man oh man that could have been bad. I turn and look and there is yet again water all over the floor??? Turns out there shower door doesnt have a ruber seal on it. So even when the shower door is close water is seeping through everytime water hits the shower floor. So I towel off and and towel up all the water. Go to sleep. Next Night I have to go through the same exact thing. Wasnt happy about that. Other thing I stayed a couple of days I feel every hotel that is going to have customers staying more than one night deserve to have a fridge, and a microwave. We didnt realize the room didnt have a fridge and microwave until after we went out to eat and brought stuff back to eat. They was able to get us a microwave when we asked for one, and luckily it was only 12degrees outside so we just kept our food in our rental until we wished to grab a bite. Last thing Im getting tired of these hotels charging over $40 a night for parking. Beaware if your staying for 3 nights you will spend an extra $129 on parking alone, and if you bring pets there is a $100 FEE, not a security deposit but straight upfront non refundable Fee. All in all the room was comfortable. But way overpriced. For the amount I spent per night, i could have had a mini bar, fridge, microwave, and two lcd's hooked up to true HD, and not digital cable. Oh the river view from the 15th floor was nice. We had a corner room so we had windows in an L shape around the room very very nice. Would I recommend yeah sure, if the bathroom wouldnt have had them issues I would have rated it higher, I could have dealt with no microwave, but by then my stay was getting sour.

7 Eleven for those nice little snakcs literally 3 minutes to the left of the building. Walgreens right around the corner for everything else you may need. I had forgot some medecine had the prescript transferred right to the walgreens, and the 7-Eleven had that nice touch of snacks and nic knacks you may be looking for at 3am. Plus your like 5 minute walk to magnificient mile.

Great North Loop location
Todd DC Nov 27, 2009
Hotel 71 has a great central location in the North Loop just steps from Michigan Ave and with easy access to public ... transportation and all parts of the city. The State Street and Michigan Avenue shopping districts are a short stroll away as are Millennium Park and the Art Institute. Service was excellent though I made few demands on the unfailingly pleasant staff. This hotel may be short on amenities compared to some pricier lodgings but it provided all I desired during my six night stay. Chicago is a great city and it had been some years since I had the leisure to spend any significant time there. I enjoyed every moment of my visit and Hotel 71 was the perfect retreat after a tiring day of touring the city. The room was very clean, comfortable and pleasantly furnished. Not as hip and trendy as some, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Had a view to the southeast of Aqua, the Aon building, the Carbide and Carbon (Hard Rock Hotel), etc. Wonderfully urban outlook for a city lover like me. The river views from rooms on the front of the building are probably spectacular (Marina City, IBM Building, Trump Tower, Wrigley Building, etc.) A wonderful hotel for the leisure visitor.

We walked to the Shedd Aquarium (long walk but great exercise and no cab fares), shopped on State St. and went to dinner at ... Catch 35 (a block or two from Hotel 71). Food was fantastic! Saturday we took the train (caught Red Line on State Street) to Lincoln Park and shopped, had lunch at Pasta Palazzo (fabulous!). Went to Blue Man Group at Briar Street Theater that night. Ate at Jack's on Halstead after the show (1 block walk from theater) and people watched. Sunday we did the Wendella architectural boat tour on the river. Price was great at $23 for an hour on the river. The weather was perfect and tour guide was awesome. Then more shopping on Michigan Ave. Ate lunch at the Grand Lux Cafe (above Ann Taylor Loft on Michigan). Never been there before but their menu was insane. It was a dozen pages long. Great food and the desserts were to die for. All the food we had all weekend was awesome. I'm having withdrawals now.

When I arrived, the man at the curb walked quickly up to my green 1993 Toyota Camry to tell me I couldn't park there. I told ... him I needed a valet because I was staying at the hotel. He was probably a little embarrassed and I was good humored about it but the moral of the story is that your employees should speak to EVERYONE as if they are a welcome guest then if you find out it's just someone trying to illegally park their old beater in front of your hotel, deal with it then. The people at the front desk were very nice and the man who helped us up to the room then later to catch a cab was very attentive. I wish I could remember their names. I'd stay there again and recommend it to others.

After reading some mixed reviews before our stay, we weren't sure what to expect at Hotel 71 except a great location. I'm ... happy to report, we were impressed with every aspect of Hotel 71, including the location. The front desk staff (and other staff) were friendly, efficient and extremely helpful with recommendations, reservations and directions. The room was spacious, comfortable and spotless. The location is great for sightseeing--within walking distance of many sights and an easy bus ride to most others. We would definitely return to Hotel 71 and recommend it to our friends and family.

Hotel 71 was a nice hotel. This was our first trip to Chicago, and it was a great experience. Hotel Parking Fees are ... outrageous and you can park next door in an open lot for half the cost of valet without in and out priveledges. My only complaint is that the room doors have to be pulled shut which bangs throughout the hallway. It was hard to get a good night sleep when you think the door next to your room is being open and closed when in fact it is the entire floor. The view was great and the fitness center makes for a great place to take photgraphs.

We were in town for a triathlon. We arrived early and had no problem for an early check-in. The staff was patient and ... friendly. The service wasn't perfect as we had to call a couple of times for delivery of a roll-away bed, but they provided it at no charge. The best part was the location, on the river and the views were incredible from the 32nd floor. Elevators were quick, although the concierge service was spotty...but you got to know quickly who to ask about what to do in the city. We stayed four nights and felt we lucked out with this pick at the end of every day. The prices we paid on Orbitz were phenomenol, the rooms were large, and very clean. We did not stay in the rooms much and there was no pool, but the fitness center had up to date equipment and I was not limited in any way. There were mostly weight training machines, with only a couple of treadmills, but I never saw anyone else using the fitness center, so there was no problem...might be in the winter. Overall, no question where I would stay again, Hotel 71 was a great pick and I would highly recommend it.

THE ROOM WAS OLD AND NEGLECTED: The upholstery on the furniture was torn. The wallpaper was peeling. There was a stain on ... the bed cover. There was no closet in the room; the only closet was in the bathroom. PROBLEMS WITH INTERNET ACCESS: The wirless internet very often did not work and even when it did, the quality was very poor. Wireline internet was not available as an option. I spent much time on the phone with technical support, to no avail. WAS NOT GIVEN THE TYPE OF ROOM I HAD REQUESTED: I stayed at Hotel71 while traveling for business with my wife. After booking the room with Orbitz, I called Hotel71 to ask for a room with one king size bed and was told that it was available and would be held for me. When I arrived, I was told that all such rooms had been given to others and was given a room with two beds.
