Left wanting Aug 4, 2009
Very nice hotel, very clean and great golf. But the beach is a strip of sand on the water just wide enough for a lounge chair ... and only 50 ft. long. Also we never recieved any wash cloths the last day, After 3 call over approx. 6 hours we were given hand towels and told there were no more clean wash cloths. Nice place and so much going for it, but the beach and the sevice left us wanting.

The actual hotel has two parts, the old part and the "tower" (there are also cottages and many other things in the resort). ... We booked on Orbitz a room in a 4star hotel. The only available rooms were with two double beds, no choice. Our room was in the old part, 2star quality, noisy AC, ground floor, ugly view. Not at all what is advertised. Service was good, staff was friendly, amenities ok.

Ditto , what others have said about the "resort fee", just role it into the price of the room rather than have us resent all ... the hidden fees. Rooms were o.k. , no coffe maker in the room, haven't seen that in a while. two of the four hot tubs were empty and nonfunciotning, outdoor pool closed all day , because it had drizzled in the morning?, isn't that all part of our resort fee?????? Staff were friendly but didn't seem very knowledgable about the area or there own hotel. rooms and pools a little run down and not that clean.

This is a beautiful hotel and property. My only complaint is with the registration desk experience. The woman who checked me ... in was unfriendly. She gave me a room on the third floor of the tower, when the hotel wasn't full and upper, nicer rooms were available. When she requested my credit card, I confirmed that the room was paid for and asked if the card was just needed for expenses, and she said yes. Then I returned a few minutes later, went to a second clerk, and requested a room change. She quickly gave me a room on the 14th Floor, which had been remodeled. When I checked out, I learned that there was a $9.95 per night resort fee that the first (unfriendly) clerk didn't bother to tell me about. I wasn't very happy. So, on to the good stuff! The standard double room was very clean, nicely decorated with pillow soft beds, a flat screen and also a refrigerator and sink. Jacuzzi tub (heavenly) and great shower. Exercise facility was nice. I ate in the casual and the upscale restaurants, the food was excellent in both locations. I highly recommend this hotel (despite the mishap with the clerk).

Relaxing stay
Marty the Marathoner May 26, 2009
We stayed here after running the marathon, and it was very relaxing. The beds are very comfortable. We also enjoyed the spa, ... and my massage there was well worth the money. The Sweetwater restaurant had good breakfast food, even though the service was a little dozy. The cafe was a disappointment. The muffins were dry and not very tasty. The resort charges a "resort fee" of $9, for "parking, wifi, and the shuttle service" which is annoying. Perfect example of nickel and diming. The lobby is nicely remodeled, but the rooms and hallways could do with some remodeling. The carpet is dated looking. The bathroom sink is too low--hits just a couple of inches above the knees. Other than that, it's a pretty relaxing place, and we would stay again.

We enjoyed our stay here. We used the fitness enter, the spa and golf courses. The only complaint we had was that the indoor ... pool was closed for repairs. We will definitely stay at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa again.

If you're looking for golf......
Shelly Jun 12, 2008
The Grand Traverse Resort is a beautiful hotel with an exceptional birds eye view of Lake Michigan and its surroundings. ... It's property is centrally located among 4 lush golf courses and has all the ammenities a golfer could want. Unfortunately, from a business professional's standpoint, the front office staff is limited in customer service training and was not knowledgable in the check-in or business center operations.

not equipped for crowds or emergencies
barbara Aug 12, 2007
Our opinion of the Grand Traverse Resort started to go downhill at check in. The room was not ready, so we joined several ... other guests in the lobby to wait. We were told they would call us on my cell phone when room was ready, but after an hour of waiting which was afterthe 4PM check in time, we went to front desk and they were able to get a room fo us. The halls were not airconditioned , but the room was lovely and the air conditionning worked. Saturday mornig. we awoke to no air, no electricity, which meant no elevator down from 6th floor. People were told a squirrel or bird got into the transformer. We needed to dress for a wedding and were happy to see that things were up and working at 2PM. Sunday morning, we awoke to no electricty again and needed to check out with a large, heavy suitcase and no elevator. We dialed 0 and operator told us elevators were not working and that she would put us through to front desk. No one answered. My 64 year old husband then carried our heavy suitcase down unlit stairwell(pitch black on 5th and 6th floor to the lobby. The lights were a real fire violation and this resort needs a powerful back up generators. We went to front desk to complain and were told we should have called for porter. With no lights on in our room and no one answering at front desk, this wasn't an option. When we asked to speak with a manager, we were told he would be in at 9AM. We left at 8:40PM and called at 1PM for manager, but were told he would call us back in a few hours. He never did and after two days went by , we contacted him, He still didn't seem to know stairwell emergency lights were out, after we ahd reported it to his front desk staff two days earlier. We would not return to this resort.

I felt this resort was over priced for what you received. The resort fee is a joke...that should be in the room price. I've ... stayed many top resorts and none of them charge a resort fee. It's very cheesy.

A Grand Stay
kirk Aug 6, 2007
We embarked on our vacation to grand traverse resort with great anticipation, and the resort did not dissapoint. Everything ... was first class and all amenities one coould imagine were first hand and first rate. Our only dissapointment was that the spa and tennis lessons were not available on our stay as they had booked ahead of time, so I would suggest making any appointments ahead of time. This was outweighed though, by the beautiful view of the sunset from the top of the hotel restaurant. I would reccommend a stay here to anyone.
