Sacramento Grandma Nov 24, 2009
This hotel was great! I was visiting my daughter so was out of the hotel part of the time, but when I was there it was quiet, ... restful and very relaxing. The area is great for long walks along the marina or shore and the gardens are wonderful to meander in. The pool was exquisite, warm and clean. I wanted to spend one afternoon reading in the gardens, but the music was distracting, even though it was soft and of the relaxing type.

Request a room away from the concert if you are not there for the concert. I am putting my satisfaction survey at mostly 3's. If it is an upgraded room the score would be high. The original room the score would be low.

travelbug Oct 12, 2009
Everything at the hotel was excellent! Friendly, helpful staff especially the concierge. I was looking for a weekend ... getaway to relax with my boyfriend and we were in a great location for that. The hotel is near a marina, not near a lot of bars so it was quiet at night, the grounds were gorgeous with small waterfalls and tropical plants and even some parrots! Would highly recomment for families and couples alike.

THe hotel was very nice. Grounds were kept up very well and the location was nice. The room was a good size and well kept ... except for the extensive stains on the carpeting when we first walked in. Also, we were not aware of the parking fee until we arrived.

Not bad
Weekend away Sep 10, 2009
This was a mixed experience. With us they stood by their 4:00 check in time; they would not let us check in an hour and a ... half earlier. We upgraded to a room with a garden/pool view and it really wasn't worth the money for that. Our first room had a tub that wouldn't drain. It was on the side of the hotel where the concert was being held and it was LOUD. Not a bad idea if you were there for the concert; but we were not. They did move us to a different room on the other side of the hotel because of the tub and we could not hear concert at all. So if you are not going for the concert; request the other side of the hotel. Our new room was COMPLTELY upgraded and modernized. There is a HUGE difference between an updated room and the original room that we were in. Parking was also an issue; however we found if you complain enough about something they will respond. I am sure we were not their favorite guests; however when you pointed out a concern...they responded very well.

What a beautiful place! It was like walking into a tropical paradise. The pool was nice and there was a bar by it. Lots of ... towels and chairs. There is even a ping pong table. We were upgraded to a suite that was much like an apartment. It had a full kitchen and tons of room. The beds and bedding were fantastic and the towels were thick and soft. There were even robes. The room was a bit dark. The lighting all came from lamps. The room was very clean and the hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Humphrey's provided a pleasant stay with just enough amenities to provide the value we are all looking for. Aside from our ... front door not being in the best condition, the room was clean and a fair size. The beds were comfortable. The grounds are very nice and provide a nice atmosphere. On site concert theater is a nice added value.

I was at the hotel during concert season, so the music was heard but stopped at 10:30. It was really a beautiful, green lush ... low rise hotel. The room service was nice and location cannot be beat. Near airport, Ocean beach and fun attractions. My grandson of 3 loved visiting "Nana's room".

Liza Jul 15, 2009
friendly staff but need pool monitor. One of the guests made their baby swim in the pool with yellowish diaper (not swimming ... diaper). They opened the diaper and it was soiled with brown stains - everybody knows what it is. Unsanitary, none of the hotel staff knew about it but I saw it and other guests. Anyway, these guests probably knew nobody is staffing the pool so they just went ahead and did what they want to do.

Hotel has its own concert hall and is almost having concerts every night. Problem is parking on the left side of the hotel. Guests lose their parking at night because of concerts. That's the big downside. Guests are not allowed to park close to their room because the parking space gets changed to valet parking for the concert. Some guests had to park at the Marina and walk to the hotel.

Patti - Mom Jul 14, 2009
The pool was like a tropical rain forest. This hotel was so nice. I was skeptical because I had never been to San Diego ... before and I am scared to get away from the big hotel chains but I read the reviews and it was a very pleasant good experience for our children and 75+ year old in-laws. The parking was a bit pricey but not any different than anywhere in california.

Magnetmama Jul 13, 2009
It's an old hotel but brought up to speed and very modern once you step into the lobby. Cool and simple design but ... impressive - and the garden is breathtaking - one feels like on a tropical island. Rooms very spacious and clean and we had a small balcony overlooking the harbor. There was a wedding going on Sat. night but it was over at 10:30. We had breakfast in a most beautiful setting overlooking the harbour. Service and food were excellent, so was the dining area with table clothes and very comfortable chairs - again very modern. I couldn't find anything I could complain about this place. It was worth the price.

There isn't much shopping around - just beautiful grounds and a restaurant that is upscale. Other restaurants are close by - even walking distance.
