Great with one Exception

Great experience -- with one exception. They advertised free internet via either WiFi or Ethernet. (I wanted Ethernet ... because WiFi isn't secure.) While they did have free WiFi, I couldn't find an Ethernet connection; I asked the desk person, he wasn't sure what I was talking about. He checked with someone else who also wasn't sure. I asked him to check the next day with someone who knew more and when I checked back the next day his response was "That's all we have and I'm not going to stress about it." (Of course he's not, his computer's security isn't being jeopardized!) With that one exception we were very satisfied.

Comfortable, clean room with good-size flat screen TV, convenient to airport. Area may be slightly shaky--hotel's parking ... lot had lots of signs disclaiming liability for theft and damage, and when I checked out the hotel security guy seemed to be taking a report from a guest concerning some sort of problem with the guest's car.

Pretty basic hotel. Nice balcony with our room, but not all rooms had them. Pool looked nice but didn't try it out. The ... best thing about this hotel is its close location to Oakland Airport. If you are looking for a decent hotel in the area at a reasonable price, this is a good choice.

I was there for a wedding where I flew in Friday night and flew out early Sunday morn. It was a beautiful place to stay, and ... the staff was extremely helpful. Although the food was a little expensive, it tasted great and was well presented. I also enjoyed the fact that their airport transportation was 24/7, which was extremely helpful for my 6 a.m. flight. I highly recommend the Park Plaza in Oakland, California.

Watch out for extra charges

The Orbitz price was so low for this luxury hotel I could hardly believe it. I chose it over the Holiday Inn Express because ... it seemed so much cheaper. It was clean and fairly comfortable (except for the hard bed). But add on a $15 bare bones continental breakfast (including tip), plus $10 round trip shuttle fare if you wanted to go anyplace else but the airport, and I could have slept more comfortably elsewhere for the same price. The shuttle fare is new and was not advertised -- an unpleasant suprise. Staff was friendly, but business center was difficult to find and minimally equipped with very little paper for printing. Pool looked nice, but in Oakland it's usually too cold to swim outside, even in July. Full-service restaurant food was average at best and terribly overpriced. Next time I'll do the math more carefully before booking.

More good than bad

Most of the staff were fantastic - very courteous, friendly, helpful. In particular, [...] at the Reception Desk (great ... sense of humour)and the two shuttle drivers (especially Tsegaul!) that we had the service of. They gave extra help for directions and information regarding the sights. There was one reception desk person whose face would crack if she smiled, I'm certain. She made you feel that you were bothering her when you came to the desk. The first day that we were there after spending a night, the cleaning staff missed cleaning our room, even though we had the "maid service" sign out. They did come that evening when we complained. The complimentary baby crib was not there, even though we had requested it. We complained and it came. However, the crib leaves much to be desired and looks like it came out of an earlier century. We didn't use it, after all. The complimentary coffee was not good and the nearest Starbucks was many, many blocks away. The bathroom could use a fan. Very quiet and clean rooms, comfortable beds, wonderful black-out curtains. Felt the price of the rooms was a bit over what they were worth. The hotel restaurant was great, food very good and service excellent.

My stay was a quick trip. The room was pleasant, though a little small by current standards. Not very comfortable chairs, ... but convenient and fast wi-fi. Staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful -- the strongest asset. Acceptable, modest coffee shop. In all I'd stay again, but not if I were looking for fancy relaxation. It's a business place.

Overall our stay was good except the cleaning staffs didn't leave us shampoo and even we called and requested them, no ... delivery of shampoo. Luckily we noticed there was a cleaning lady outside of our room and we just asked her to give us some. So it end up still ok.

When we first got there, the PC was not working well, so we had to wait at the front office. The first night when we stay at ... the room, I could here some noise. We could not sleep well and the noise was not stop, so we called to the front at 5:30. However, nobady answered. I went to down stair and said to a lady " Excuse me". what did she said to me first?? she said "what?" Finally, a man came to our room and said " it sometimes happens. I can not do any thing about that." I felt so bad and wanted to change hotel to stay next night. We Could get another room, however, I really regret to choose this hotel. rooms are ok. the staff was so bad.
