under serious construction
Mrs. C Nov 9, 2009
The hotel was under MAJOR construction during our stay and we were given no notice of such. We were in a beautiful room but ... were on a floor where EVERY OTHER ROOM was under construction. Hammering, sawing, etc at 7:00am right in the next room! Our ONLY consolation from management was an $18 per day credit. Very disappointing.

Very disappointed with this hotel and would never go back. Hotel was under construction and a disaster. THe website said they ... had an outside bar and they didn't. No music at the pool and no ice machines that worked. Far from everything and noisy because of construction. Some friendly staff, but were not at all concerned with our dissatisfaction with our stay.

Ocean Sands is wonderful for low key couples, looking for a relaxing vacation. However, night life is a short drive away. ... The rooms had a great view of the ocean, were big and clean. It was also quiet at night. The Spa was extremely fabulous and very affordable. My husband played golf, (short drive away) while I had my spa treatments. The pools were very nice. The beach was very quiet at night as well. The staff and valet were extremely courteous and helpful. There is a bar near the pool that was great. It was overall a great stay and will stay again. Must have a car, to sight see and eat at the many wonderful restuarants around, shopping and night life. Extremely affordable for the amenities!!

Rent a car - the cab ride is rather expensive and then once you get there you cant really walk to many places to find something to do.

Terrible beach
young mom of 2 Aug 6, 2009
I would never go back to Pompano beach. We didn't have a rental car. There wasn't even a place to get milk for my baby the ... first night after an 1 hr at 10 o'clock looking everywhere I was told by the front desk to call a cab to take me to the store. Eventually she got me milk from their restaurant to get me through the night. The next morning we rented a car anddrove to fort lauderdale and miami everyday.....what a huge difference in the cleanliness of the ocean!!!!!

Relaxing Beach Vacation
traveler Jul 22, 2009
The hotel was fantastic. The rooms were clean, spacious, and the kitchenette made it very livable. Each room looks right ... onto the beach and has a great view. The water was delicious. There are not many places to eat in Pompano so having a car is a necessity.

Sunshine Lover May 12, 2009
Nice location, overall service was not what I would expect for a "4 star hotel" the remote for the tv didn't work and neither ... did the printer in the business office, we mentioned both to the front desk and neither was resolved. What surprised me the most was that no one during the entire 10 days asked how are stay was going.

Nice place if you want to relax...
Canadian Kitty May 8, 2009
We found the Ocean Sands the type of resort you would go to for complete relaxation...It's located right on the beach and ... this part does not see alot of action. We booked the 2 bedroom family suite and we were pleasantly surprised at the amount of room there was, it was very clean and the beds were comfortable(nice fluffy duvets on each bed as well...not the usual yucky hotel bedspreads) There is a restaurant in the hotel but we did not dine there. It's not open too late but you can order in pizza and subs from the local pizza parlor - the front desk has a take-out menu. The Pool is nice, does get a little crowded during peak hours. It even has it's own resident Iguana who's quite friendly. My only complaint is that it's located too far away from the night life, there's literally nothing open around this area after 9pm except a CVS. The age group while we were there was varied - either young families or people over the age of 70. Overall a nice place but not the place to go if you want some nightlife.

Great hotel at a great price!
Jenn Apr 23, 2009
At check in we were immediately upgraded to a Two Bedroom/Two Bathroom Suite! The room was great...It was more than enough ... space for just me & my boyfriend. The Room was very clean and spacious. We had two balconies overlooking the ocean and the pool...both were an exquisite view! We slept every night with the balcony doors open; to wake to the sound of the ocean was awesome! The hotel grounds and pool area were very well maintained. One pool is heated and feels like very nice bath water. The whirlpool was too hot! A couple of nights we could not even get in because the water temperature was unbearable. We paid for the additional charges for breakfast each day and it was well worth it. We were given a voucher for each day to redeemed at the hotel restuarant, the $20 price that Orbitz charges is a steal compared to what you get. The restaurant was poorly ran and organized but overall the food was good. We were disappointed by the locationsas were expecting something closer to the airport and Fort Lauderdale. We had not planned to rent a car as our plan to was to cab ride to the hotel and then walk the rest of our trip. Our cab ride from the Ft. Lauderdale airport was around $55 which was more than anticipated, we ended up renting a car because there is not much to do around the hotel area. There are also not any stores/shops closely located. Overall our experience was awesome. This was a great location for relaxing and taking in the rays of the sun. We would highly recommend to hotel to anyone traveling.

Great value - cuter than the price would
Seannebadger Apr 1, 2009
A great getaway hotel. Located in Pompano Beach - it offers a non-spring-break location but still close enough to shopping ... and restaurants in Delray Beach, Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale. Great, helpful staff. Beautiful room with washer and dryer (lots of the hotel was time-share). Our balcony overlooked the pool and ocean. The spa was fantastic. Massage, facial, mani, pedi, spa lunch & a salt glow -- for a reasonable package price.

poor service - great amenities
kenneth Jan 28, 2008
The room, view and amenities were excellent. The service was very poor -- example check in was at 4pm - we arrived at 4 and ... were told that the room wold be ready in 5 minutes -- we waited approximately and hour. example 2 -- I called down to the front desk for a coffee packet - i was told she was send somebody with it -- an hour later she calls back and says the person she sent forgot and she would try to find someone else -- i waited antoher hour and decided to go downstairs and get the coffee myself. The only hold up here is that the coffee shop which supposedly opens at eight according to the sign -- had no one there at 8:30am.

Excellent Location, beach...
Serdar Aug 15, 2007
This hotel surpassed our expectations. Reading some of the other reviews, I was somewhat skeptical on what to expect. The ... rooms were well appointed with microwave, fridge, coffemaker (with Starbucks coffee) and even a washer and dryer. Rooms have the view of the beautiful beach and private balconies were big enough for 2 people to watch the spectacular ocean. The room service was timely, and hotel check-in and check-out was speedy and friendly. A couple of minor negatives; If you are staying with your family during a weekend beware of the partying, noisy, drunk neighbors. They were definitely a nuisance during our Friday-Saturday stay, but things calmed down considerably the rest of the week. Sometimes you feel like you are forced to tip the guy doing the valet service. Note that you are getting charged $18.00/day for hotel service charge that includes the valet parking. Overall very positive experience, will definitely go back..

Definitely recommend Whale's Rib, a local seafood restaurant 10 min. drive from the hotel.

Adequate Accommodations For Two
Andrea Jun 12, 2007
Ocean Sands Resort & Spa was an experience. The bell and valet provided wonderful service and the room accommodations were ... comfortable even though there was no lights in the corridors to the room. However, their frontdesk services(staff) and business center was far from helpful or remotely satisfactory. The staff were not professional nor friendly, gave mis-information and seem to have no clue as to what is happening in the hotel (and they didnot seem to care either). The business center is a complete joke. Printer with no ink, one computer that took forever to get online(then froze)and poor room lighting. Housekeeping does a wonderful job when they are available. The hotel is however ideally located to all shopping, dining and many recreational centers. The beach, chairs and cabans would benefit from some cleaning. Overall, it was okay for a quick get away for two (sort of like camping) but we would not take our kids there.

For Dining we had many wonderful choices but found these places most friendly, offered terrific service and great prices: Fredo's - Different but great Flanigan's - More casual atmosphere Baja Restaurant - Great for lunch Joe's Riverside Cafe And Grill - Terrific and romantic dining (a little off the main).
